- Five-Year Follow-up of the ELZA-sub400 Protocol: Individualized Corneal Cross-linking With Riboflavin and UV-A in Ultrathin Keratoconic Corneas. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e416-e424.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: The ELZA-sub400 protocol safely stabilized keratoconus in 84.6% of ultrathin corneas over 5 years, with no signs of endothelial damage. Individualized fluence enabled effective treatment of corneas previously ineligible for standard CXL.

- Visual Outcomes, Quality of Vision, and Quality of Life After Bilateral Implantation of a Trifocal Intraocular Lens With Mini-monovision. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e404-e415.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Trifocal intraocular lens implantation with mini-monovision offers an extended range of vision, particularly at very near distances, along with satisfactory visual outcomes and quality of vision and life. This approach represents a viable option for patients seeking high spectacle independence and functional vision across a wide range of daily activities.

- Anterior Stromal Melt Following Implantation of a Large Size Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segment (CAIRS). [Case Reports]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e506-e510.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: The large segment size placed superficially may have contributed to localized biomechanical stress, particularly in eyes with advanced keratoconus. Safe thresholds for segment/tunnel sizes, depth, and location warrant further studies.

- Corneal Biomechanical Metrics by Corvis ST in a Mexican Population: Normative Data and Population-Specific Implications for Intraocular Pressure Assessment. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e477-e484.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Corneal biomechanical behavior measured with the Corvis ST demonstrates population-specific characteristics in healthy Mexican eyes. IOP exerts a substantial influence on several dynamic corneal response parameters, underscoring the importance of pressure-aware interpretation in refractive surgery screening. Population-specific calibration of biomechanical metrics, including bIOP estimation, may enhance the accuracy of biomechanical assessment for ectasia risk stratification and preoperative refractive evaluation.

- Large Language Models for Selecting Intraocular Lens Power Calculation Formulas: A Comparative Study. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e458-e467.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared with BUII, current LLMs exhibit limited capacity to improve refractive outcomes by selecting the optimal formulas for routine practice; however, certain LLMs show promise as adjunctive tools for personalized selection tailored to specific ALs.

- Correlation Between Lens Density and Inter-Method Difference in Axial Length: Sum-of-Segments Versus Traditional Method on a Novel SS-OCT Biometer and the IOLMaster 700. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e431-e440.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Agreement between the ZW-30 and IOLMaster700 appeared to decrease in medium and long eyes, with discrepancy correlating with lens density in long eyes, although this finding requires confirmation in larger samples. The EVO and BUII formulas provided favorable refractive predictions compared with the PEARL-DGS.

- Epithelium-on Corneal Cross-linking Using a Modified Penetration Enhancer Without Supplemental Oxygen or Iontophoresis. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e425-e430.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: This new epi-on CXL approach demonstrated 12-month topographic stability in progressive keratoconus without requiring supplemental oxygen or iontophoresis. This simplification holds the potential to enable a practical, office-based approach to epi-on cross-linking.

- Risk Factors Associated With ICL Decentration After ICL Surgery. [Journal Article]J Refract Surg. 2026 Oct; 42(10):e452-e457.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: ICL decentration after surgery is generally small but varies between individuals; angle alpha is the main predictor of decentration, and preoperative measurement of angles alpha and kappa helps identify patients at higher risk.
