  • The Effects of Positive Airway Pressure on the Middle Ear: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
    Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]Krivda J, Lewis-Cruz J, … Ruhl DL
  • CONCLUSIONS: PAP increases MEP in a dose-dependent manner, a finding of interest to otologic surgeons. In addition to its role in sleep medicine, PAP therapy may serve as a noninvasive treatment for chronic Eustachian tube dysfunction and TM retraction. Further prospective studies are needed to guide management conclusions for otologic patients utilizing PAP, particularly in the postoperative setting.
  • Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction in Hypermobile Patients. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]Menton SM, Fairweather D, … Rutt ALL
  • CONCLUSIONS: Chronic cough, dysphagia, and elevated MC symptom burden were the strongest independent predictors of ILO across both hEDS and HSD, underscoring the need for routine multidisciplinary laryngeal assessment in this population.
  • Neurotologic and MRI Correlates of Idiopathic Acute Unilateral Audiovestibulopathy. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]Kim KT, Pak A, … Kim JSL
  • CONCLUSIONS: 52% of patients with iAUAV showed positivity on precontrast 3D-FLAIR images, showing a strong association with vestibular deficits in the PC. The observed correlation between MRI and neurotologic findings may facilitate the diagnosis and differentiation of iAUAV and provide insight into its underlying pathophysiology as a frequent cause of acute audiovestibulopathy.
  • Quality of Life in Children Who Are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing and Their Families-A Scoping Review. [Review]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]Laugen NJ, Dirks E, Huttunen KL
  • CONCLUSIONS: QoL includes multiple aspects, and they need to be specified in each study to facilitate cross-study comparison. Future research should include understudied groups, such as children with mild hearing loss and children with comorbid conditions. Furthermore, studies that investigate the benefits of interventions beyond cochlear implantation are needed.
  • Confocal Ex Vivo Margin Assessment in Transoral Laser Cordectomy: A Pilot Diagnostic Accuracy Study. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Alberti C, Fabbri VP, … Mattioli FL
  • CONCLUSIONS: The Histolog Scanner is a feasible, rapid intraoperative screening tool with high specificity and excellent negative predictive value for ruling out involved margins in TLM cordectomy. It serves as an intraoperative adjunct rather than a replacement for definitive histopathology, which remains essential. Larger multicenter studies are required before widespread clinical setting implementation.
  • Hearing Screening Among Underserved US Adults: A Scoping Review of Modalities and Determinants. [Review]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Bharol K, Marrero Morales LS, … Durr MLL
  • CONCLUSIONS: A variety of modalities are being utilized to conduct hearing screening for adult populations. The feasibility of implementation varies by study setting and is supported by facilitators including integration into primary care, encouragement by providers, and patient education. In order to improve the rates of hearing screening among all communities, including those that are underserved, it is important to acknowledge both the barriers and facilitators to screening. Consistent guidelines, a focus on implementation, and partnerships across providers will be most beneficial in this pursuit.
  • Effects of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) in Cultured Human Vocal Fold Fibroblasts. [Journal Article]
    Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]Kiessling P, Kimura A, … Erickson-DiRenzo EL
  • CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide an in vitro methodology for studying hVFF responses to PM2.5. In revealing the persistent cellular association of PM2.5 particles following exposures, as well as dose-dependent decreased cell viability and increased oxidative stress at higher PM2.5 concentrations, this work provides key initial insights into the effects of PM2.5 on hVFF. Findings from this work will provide a foundation for future in vitro and mechanistic studies of the cell-level effects of air pollution on the vocal folds.
  • Storytelling in Medical Terminology: The Myths, Tales, and Pop Legends of Otolaryngology. [Review]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]Mosteller LJ, Tolisano AML
  • CONCLUSIONS: These eponyms serve not only as historical artifacts but also as cognitive and visual heuristics that condense complex anatomy, phenotype, and pathophysiology into memorable narrative constructs. Preserving awareness of these cultural roots enhances surgical education by leveraging the proven mnemonic power of storytelling and reminds clinicians that the language of medicine remains inseparable from the broader human experience.
  • Video Laryngeal Mask Airway for Visual Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Monitoring in Thyroid Surgery. [Journal Article]
    Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]Liu F, Huang J, … Wang GL
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory feasibility study, the VFLMA enabled direct visual RLN monitoring during thyroid surgery with an acceptable ventilation success rate. These preliminary findings are hypothesis-generating and require validation in comparative studies. With appropriate patient selection, the VFLMA may offer an alternative approach for RLN monitoring.
