- Clinical Relevance of Magnesium Supplementation In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. [Review]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]MC
- Magnesium deficiency is common in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), affecting up to 48% of patients, yet remains underrecognized in routine clinical practice. A bidirectional relationship between hypomagnesemia and insulin resistance has been well characterized, and observational data consistently link higher magnesium intake to reduced risks of T2DM, hypertension, stroke, and heart failure. Howev…

- The Burden of Type 1 Peri-Operative Myocardial Infarction After Non-Cardiac Surgery: Insights From the Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project From 2010-2023. [Journal Article]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]MC
- CONCLUSIONS: PMI mortality is significantly higher than AMI all-comers, seen across all subspecialties up to five-years, with variation in the risk of mortality from PMI according to operation type. PMI may identify a high-risk vulnerable group of patients, whose increased mortality risk persists long term, even in those who survive to discharge.

- Associations of Pre-Diagnostic Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Handgrip Strength With All-Cause Mortality and 15-Year Survival After Cancer Diagnosis. [Journal Article]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]MC
- CONCLUSIONS: Among participants who later developed cancer, estimated CRF showed a stronger association with mortality than handgrip strength in this cohort. These findings highlight the importance of pre-diagnostic lifestyle interventions to improve long-term survival, though both fitness components may contribute through distinct physiological pathways.

- Self-Reported Health, Stress, and Lifestyle Behaviors Among U.S. Chief Executive Officers: A Comparison of Two Cohorts. [Journal Article]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]MC
- CONCLUSIONS: Among surveyed U.S. CEOs, participation in a comprehensive executive health program was associated with lower self-reported stress, healthier lifestyle behaviors, and higher quality-of-life. The findings underscore lifestyle factors relevant to overall health and highlight areas for clinicians to prioritize when treating CEO patients. Prior research suggests that CEO well-being may have broader implications for employee well-being, further supporting the need for regular patient feedback to help executive health programs adapt healthcare services to the evolving needs of their patients.

- Art is integrated into the Mayo Clinic environment. Since the original Mayo Clinic Building was finished in 1914, many pieces have been donated or commissioned for patients and staff to enjoy. Each issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings features a work of art (as interpreted by the author) that is displayed in a building or on the grounds of Mayo Clinic campuses.

- Cybersecurity Hygiene in Health Care: Practical Steps for Clinicians to Protect Themselves and Their Organizations. [Review]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct; 101(10):1837-1844.MC
- Cybersecurity has become a critical determinant of patient safety, business continuity, and organizational resilience in health care. Health care organizations are increasingly targeted by ransomware, data theft, and related attacks that disrupt clinical operations, threaten patient safety, delay care, and compromise sensitive information. Although often viewed as technical failures, many inciden…

- Treatment of Breast Cancer. [Review]Mayo Clin Proc. 2026 Oct; 101(10):1788-1817.MC
- Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women and the leading cause of cancer deaths in females globally. In the United States, more than 300,000 new cases of invasive BC are diagnosed annually, and more than 40,000 patients die of metastatic BC. Herein, we discuss the current and evolving management of invasive BC. Despite major progress, ongoing challenges include how b…

- CONCLUSIONS: This analysis is the first to report an increased hip fracture rate in astronauts (1) at an earlier age than in non-astronauts and (2) with astronaut fracture surveillance conducted during the period following an LD-SF mission (greater than 90 days) rather than during the period before or with no exposure to long-duration mission.
