- Robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting: current knowledge and future perspectives. [Review]
- Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass grafting (MIDCAB) and totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting (TECAB) are the two existing strategies for robotic-assisted, surgical myocardial revascularization. In this review, we summarize the wide evidence available in the literature regarding the benefits of these two procedures, and detail the technical skills required to master ro…

- Features of degenerative mitral valve prolapse in the North East of China: repair characteristics, and short-term follow-up results. [Journal Article]Minerva Cardioangiol. 2020 Oct; 68(5):453-468.MC
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared to Western countries, in our sample of Chinese population degenerative severe MR occurred in younger patients. The MVP lesion characteristics are similar, can be accurately detected by non-invasive preoperative evaluation, allowing predictable results. Advanced tailored repair techniques allow excellent immediate and short-term results regardless of the underlying complexity.

- Myocardial revascularization in chronic coronary syndromes: does viability matter? [Review]Minerva Cardioangiol. 2020 Oct; 68(5):386-392.MC
- Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death worldwide and improving the prognosis and survival of patients with ischemic heart disease remains a priority of cardiovascular specialists. This article will review the principles of myocardial viability, present the noninvasive imaging tests available to clinicians, as well as critically appraise the latest literature on myocardial via…

- Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in heart failure patients: an appraisal of recent cardiovascular outcome trials. [Review]Minerva Cardioangiol. 2020 Dec; 68(6):629-651.MC
- Although initially introduced as a novel oral glucose-lowering agent class, cumulative evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have led sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) to become a component of primary and secondary prevention from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Dapagliflozin, one of the agents of this class, wa…

- Ventricular fibrillation induced by 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate under conditions of hypoxia/reoxygenation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Obtained results indicate that the effect of arrhythmogenic chemicals, for example, proarrhythmic drugs that affect the myocardial [Ca2+]<inf>in</inf>, depended on the oxygen supply to the heart. The components of the store operated calcium entry and gap junctions can become promising therapeutic targets for controlling the physiological disorders of the heart and blood vessels caused or accompanied by reoxygenation.

- Artificial intelligence in cardiothoracic surgery. [Review]
- The tremendous and rapid technological advances that humans have achieved in the last decade have definitely impacted how surgical tasks are performed in the operating room (OR). As a high-tech work environment, the contemporary OR has incorporated novel computational systems into the clinical workflow, aiming to optimize processes and support the surgical team. Artificial intelligence (AI) is in…

- Dual antiplatelet therapy duration after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents: how short can we go? [Review]Minerva Cardioangiol. 2020 Oct; 68(5):436-450.MC
- Current guidelines recommend a duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and oral P2Y<inf>12</inf> receptor inhibitors following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with second-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) of 6 months for most patients with stable coronary disease and of 12 months for most patients with acute coronary syndromes. Large evidence from randomised clinical…

- The effects of a 50 km ultramarathon race on high sensitivity cardiac troponin I and NT-proBNP in highly trained athletes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed a significant increase in hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP in highly trained athletes after a 50 km ultramarathon race, and 30% of runners had the values of cardiac biomarkers above URL. More studies with a larger number of athletes will be needed to better understand the effects of intense exercise on the heart of trained athletes.

- Nitric oxide/cGMP signaling pathway and potassium channels contribute to hypotensive effects of nothofagin. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These results show that nothofagin induces a hypotensive response in Wistar rats, and this effect depends on K+ channel opening in smooth muscle cells through nitric oxide signaling.

- Mapping decision making for bypass surgery in the era of interventional medicine: towards an integrative model of patient-centeredness. [Review]Minerva Cardioangiol. 2020 Oct; 68(5):469-479.MC
- This article reviews the context and evidence of recent myocardial revascularization trials on PCI versus CABG with particular emphasis on patient selection and treatment of surgical patients. Moreover, one of our intended purposes is to identify the values underpinning the integrated care model, which incorporates decision to proceed with surgical myocardial revascularization in conjunction with…
