  • Polycystic ovary syndrome, amenorrhea and the diagnostic role of anti-Müllerian hormone. [Review]
Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Dec; 45(4):376-380.Capuzzo M, Donno V, La Marca AME
  • The differential diagnosis of anovulatory disorders is actually based on serum gonadotrophin and estradiol levels. However, several other markers have been proposed. The purpose of this review was to underline the role of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) as a possible marker in differential diagnosis of the anovulatory diseases and its use as a predictive marker of prognosis. In this article we discu…
  • Codon bias analyses on thyroid carcinoma genes. [Journal Article]
Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Dec; 45(4):295-305.Pepe D, DE Keersmaecker KME
  • CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study that analyzed the codon bias in thyroid cancer genes based also on synonymous mutations. This study provided different hints that should be further investigated by wet-lab validation and that it could open new scenarios in the understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in thyroid cancer development based on codon bias.
  • The possible role of endocrine dysfunction of adipose tissue in gestational diabetes mellitus. [Review]
    Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Sep; 45(3):228-242.Šimják P, Anderlová K, … Haluzík MME
  • Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is diabetes that is first diagnosed in the second or third trimester of pregnancy in patients who did not have a history of diabetes before pregnancy. Consequences of GDM include increased risk of macrosomia and birth complications in the infant and an increased risk of maternal type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) after pregnancy. There is also a longer-term risk o…
  • Male hypogonadism: therapeutic choices and pharmacological management. [Review]
    Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Sep; 45(3):189-203.La Vignera S, Izzo G, … Aversa AME
  • Male hypogonadism, defined as an inadequate testosterone production, recognizes a testicular (primary hypogonadism) or a hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction (central hypogonadism), although combined forms can also occur. Moreover, it has been known that intensive exercise training might be a cause of functional hypogonadism. Many therapeutic choices are currently available, depending on the timing…
  • Oxidative stress as a key feature of autoimmune thyroiditis: an update. [Review]
Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Dec; 45(4):326-344.Ruggeri RM, CampennÌ A, … Gangemi SME
  • CONCLUSIONS: Oxidant/antioxidant imbalance represent a key feature of thyroid autoimmunity. Oxidative stress parameters could be used as biochemical markers of chronic inflammation, to better predict the disease evolution along its natural history. Dietary habits and antioxidant supplements may provide protection from autoimmunity, opening new perspectives in the development of more tailored therapies.
  • Lights and darks of neuroendocrine tumors of the appendix. [Review]
Minerva Endocrinol. 2020 Dec; 45(4):381-392.Tamagno G, Bennett A, Ivanovski IME
  • CONCLUSIONS: There are some persisting "grey areas" with regard to the characterization and the clinical management of neuroendocrine tumors of the appendix. An increasing awareness of the biological and clinical aspects of this disease and new, ideally prospective, focused studies might help and clarify some relevant issues that are not fully elucidated yet and could increase the solidity of the guidance for the management and the follow-up of the patients.
