- Association between rheumatoid arthritis-interstitial lung disease and lung cancer: a two -sample Mendelian randomization study with East Asian genetic instruments. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]MR
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the severe lung complications of rheumatic arthritis do not inherently share a direct, genetically driven pathway with malignancy. The observed clinical risk may be explained by shared environmental factors, such as smoking, or chronic immune dysregulation, rather than inherent genetic pleiotropy, although further investigation is needed to clarify these mechanisms.

- Impact of remission definitions on residual symptom burden assessed using the Okomarigoto Sheet in rheumatoid arthritis: a comparison between Boolean 1.0 and Boolean 2.0. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]MR
- CONCLUSIONS: RS burden in RA varies depending on the remission definition. Boolean 2.0 remission expands the classification of remission and is associated with higher multidimensional residual symptom scores than Boolean 1.0 remission.

- Complete remission and relapse in the treatment of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]MR
- CONCLUSIONS: CR was achieved in two-thirds of IIM patients. Achieving CR was protective for relapse. Combination therapy with two IS/biologics might be preferable in relapsed cases.

- Managing Methotrexate Intolerance in Rheumatoid Arthritis: The Role of Oral-to-Subcutaneous Switching. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]MR
- Methotrexate (MTX) remains the anchor drug in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, its clinical use is frequently limited by intolerance, leading to dose reduction or discontinuation. In addition, oral MTX exhibits pharmacokinetic limitations, including dose-dependent absorption and reduced bioavailability at higher doses, which may compromise therapeutic efficacy. Subcutaneous (…

- Safety of intravenous and subcutaneous belimumab in Japanese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: Final analysis of data from an all-case post-marketing surveillance study. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]MR
- CONCLUSIONS: No new safety concerns were identified compared with previously reported data and current belimumab labelling. Depression/suicidal ideation/suicide attempt incidence rate was similar to that previously reported for patients with SLE. Patients with risk factors for serious infection and depression/suicidal ideation/suicide attempt should be carefully monitored.Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT03370263.

- Clinical Significance of Dysphagia in Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies: A Narrative Review of Survival and Functional Outcomes. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]MR
- Dysphagia is a common and clinically significant complication in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), contributing to aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, and reduced quality of life. However, its prognostic significance in terms of survival and swallowing outcomes remains unclear. A narrative review was conducted using PubMed to identify relevant studies published between January 2000 and Ap…

- Development and Internal Validation of a Nomogram Model Based on Serum OPG and RANKL for Identifying Low Physical Health-Related Quality of Life Status in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. [Journal Article]Mod Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]MR
- CONCLUSIONS: This study developed and internally validated a nomogram model integrating serum OPG and RANKL levels, functional disability, inflammatory activity, and disease duration for identifying low physical HRQoL status in RA patients. The model demonstrates robust discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility, providing clinicians with a practical tool for individualized risk stratification and facilitating earlier supportive and disease-control interventions.

- CONCLUSIONS: BW, eGFR, and PPI co-administration may influence the CL/F of total RBC MTX-PGs in Japanese patients with RA. These findings may support model-informed interpretation of RBC MTX-PGs concentrations, although further studies are needed to confirm the clinical applicability of the model.

- Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive joint disease associated with pain and disability, and current treatments do not restore damaged articular cartilage.
