  • How well do junior neurology residents recognize multiple sclerosis? Analysis of the "Close the Loop" resident clinical acumen project. [Journal Article]
Mult Scler. 2026 Oct 12; :13524585261492141. [Online ahead of print]Zbrzeski C, Schorr EM, … Krieger SCMS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Acute multiple sclerosis/demyelinating disease presentations pose educational challenges for neurology residents, with errors primarily arising from misclassification of central nervous system etiologies. Diagnostic accuracy was influenced by prior disease history and patient age, highlighting cognitive biases such as framing and anchoring. Structured feedback models like "close the loop" may help improve multiple sclerosis diagnostic acumen in residency training and clinical practice.

  • There is an increasing number of people experiencing housing insecurity and forcible displacement globally. We perform a scoping review, searching PubMed (1 January 1990-30 June 2026) for the key terms "housing insecurity," "inadequate housing," "houselessness," "homelessness," "housing," "forcible displacement," "refugee," "asylum seeker," and "internal displacement," focusing on the outcomes of…
  • How patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease accumulate disability. [Journal Article]
    Mult Scler. 2026 Oct 08; :13524585261489039. [Online ahead of print]Sharmin S, Roos I, … Kalincik TMS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Irreversible disability worsening was rare in this proactively treated cohort of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease patients (3.6 events per 100 patient-years). However, almost 19% of worsening occurred in the absence of relapses, reassuringly in only 2% of patients. Our findings support relapses as the principal driver of disability in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease while also providing evidence of relapse-independent disability worsening beyond identifiable comorbidities.
  • Serum NfL predicts visual recovery and neuronal loss after optic neuritis. [Journal Article]

  • Optic neuritis, a common manifestation of multiple sclerosis, involves acute axonal injury and variable visual recovery. We evaluated whether serum neurofilament light chain predicts visual and structural outcomes after first-episode optic neuritis. Fifty-one patients (mean age = 33 years, 71% women) were followed for 24 ± 6 months with low-contrast letter acuity testing and optical coherence tom…
