- Randomized Controlled Trial of Lifestyle Plus Sleep Extension Intervention on Adults With Prediabetes and Short Sleep. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Adding a behavioral sleep intervention to a lifestyle intervention did not improve glucose control. However, advancing sleep onset time predicted greater weight loss, independent of sleep duration or group assignment, identifying circadian timing as a promising and modifiable target for diabetes prevention. Prospective trials powered to test sleep timing interventions on metabolic outcomes are warranted.

- Illness Perception Mediation and Disease Characteristics Moderation of the Relationship Between Health Literacy and Self-Care Behaviors in Chronic Kidney Disease. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Treatment control may be an important cognitive pathway linking HL to self-care in CKD. This pathway appeared more evident among patients with shorter disease duration, suggesting that HL-based support may be particularly useful when patients are still developing their understanding of CKD and confidence in treatment. For patients with a longer illness history, self-care support may need to move beyond information provision and address treatment confidence and the challenges of long-term disease management.

- Sample Size Justification in Quantitative Research. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Aligning sample-size justification with the methodological purpose of the study strengthens transparency, improves conceptual coherence, and enhances ethical accountability. Misapplication of power analysis can lead to unstable effect-size estimates, misinterpretation, and inefficient use of research resources. A design-specific approach can therefore help maintain methodological rigor across quantitative nursing research.

- Demonstration of Conceptual and Statistical Assumptions of Causal Mediation. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: The quality of causal inference in mediation analysis depends on research design as much as it does on statistical sophistication. Mediation analysis is most powerful when researchers treat its causal assumptions as design principles rather than technical add-ons. No amount of post-hoc statistical adjustment can fully compensate for weaknesses in measurement, temporality, or study conceptualization.

- Building Capacity for Statistical Rigor in a College of Nursing. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: The collaboration model offers a feasible, mission-aligned alternative to centralized university cores, or biostatistics cores housed within a college of nursing, commonly found in many U.S institutions. By combining strategic leadership with coordinated external expertise and operational infrastructure, the model strengthens statistical rigor while remaining adaptable to the needs of a college of nursing. Key areas for future development include expanding funding support for educational efforts, strengthening research culture, and exploring the committee's role in supporting practice and education scholarship.

- Mediation of Smoking and Cardiometabolic Factors on Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Aug 24. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings support the multifactorial nature of DPN and suggest that behavioral and cardiometabolic factors interact in shaping neuropathy risks. Integrating smoking exposure assessments with glycemic and vascular risk management may strengthen prevention strategies in primary care populations with type 2 diabetes.

- Vibe Coding for Statistical Analysis Using Large Language Models. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: While vibe coding has the potential to reduce barriers to data analysis for researchers, this case study demonstrated that it can produce both valid and invalid outputs and that foundational statistical training, knowledge, understanding, and methodological expertise remain paramount when using it. Future studies should address important empirical questions about the use of vibe coding, such as under what conditions it can be safely used in research and what kinds of errors are most commonly generated when using it. AI-assisted HITL vibe coding should be used with caution and only with structured verification and safeguards, transparent reporting, and appropriate statistical and methodological oversight.

- Statistical Considerations for Research Reproducibility: Strategies for Building Transparent Analytic Workflows. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Reproducibility is both an ethical and methodological imperative. Incremental improvements can reshape research culture, producing more trustworthy work. Integrating reproducibility into education, mentorship, and team science can help ensure that rigorous, transparent analytic practices become standard in research.

- Prevalence, Sociodemographic Differences, and Comorbidity in Pediatric Obesity. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric obesity among hospitalized children is associated with significant sociodemographic disparities and a high burden of comorbidities. Hospitalization represents a vital opportunity for identification and linkage to care.

- Pilot Study of Oral Microbiome and Psychoneurological Symptom Cluster in Breast Cancer. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary associations were identified between the psychoneurological symptom cluster and oral microbiome diversity and composition. Of the differentially abundant genera, Lautropia has been previously linked with anxiety, and Aggregatibacter has been researched due to its pro-inflammatory potential. As inflammation is posited to influence psychoneurological symptom cluster severity, further research on the relationship between the oral microbiome and the psychoneurological symptom cluster, specifically in relation to potential causal mechanisms, is warranted. Enhanced insight into this relationship could inform targeted interventions to improve the symptom experience for women with breast cancer.

- Cognitive Decline and Fear of Falling Among Community-Dwelling Racially Diverse Older Adults in Low-Income Settings. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2026 Nov-Dec 01; 75(6):452-458.NR
- CONCLUSIONS: Among racially diverse older adults, SCD was not independently associated with fear of falling; however, accounting for co-occurring affective symptoms provided a more comprehensive understanding. Although depressive symptoms were associated with fear of falling, it was anxiety that contributed to concerns about falling when older adults experienced functional difficulties due to SCD. Future studies should use larger, more representative samples to evaluate whether older adults' fear of falling and affective well-being changes over time, particularly among those experiencing SCD.
