- Finding rhythm: Individualizing the timing of home nutrition support. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 24. [Online ahead of print]NC
- While overnight cyclic infusions are considered standard clinical practice for home nutrition support therapy, particularly for parenteral nutrition, there is growing recognition that the optimal timing of infusion may vary among patients. A key clinical dilemma is determining the optimal timing of infusion schedules, which vary based on modality, tolerance, metabolic needs, and patient preferenc…

- Impact of a VLBW feeding guideline on central line usage and enteral feeding practices: A quality improvement project. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 20. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: The use of a standardized FG resulted in fewer PICC placements and decreased time to full EN without increasing the NEC rate. Future initiatives will focus on improving growth and MOM provision in VLBW infants.

- Validity and agreement of bioelectrical impedance equations against dual energy X-ray absorptiometry for muscle mass assessment in patients on hemodialysis: A cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 20. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: The Lin equation provided the most accurate and reproducible estimates of muscle mass compared with DXA and showed good diagnostic performance for low muscle mass in patients on HD.

- The effect of dietitian-controlled IDDSI-based diet modification on nutritional outcomes in patients undergoing neurological rehabilitation: A retrospective study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 18. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Within dietitian-supervised nutritional care, IDDSI-based texture modification was associated with more favorable nutrition-related outcomes than the traditional R1-2-3 system. Given the retrospective, nonrandomized design, these findings should not be interpreted as evidence of causality.

- Prophylactic probiotics and synbiotics for prevention of diarrhea in adults receiving enteral nutrition: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 18. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Very low-certainty evidence suggests probiotics or synbiotics may reduce reported diarrhea in adults on EN, but the true effect is likely smaller. Current data do not support routine use or specific recommendations. Larger, blinded trials with standardized definitions are needed.

- Severe malnutrition and persistent myopenia despite weight recovery in newly diagnosed stricturing Crohn's disease: A case report. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]NC
- Protein-energy malnutrition is a common complication in Crohn's disease (CD). In addition to weight loss, patients may develop significant alterations in body composition, including skeletal muscle depletion, which can negatively affect clinical outcomes and quality of life. Herein, we report on a patient with newly diagnosed CD who presented with severe malnutrition and myopenia, which persisted…

- Beyond conventional anthropometry: Muscle-related indicators and muscle strength in adults with congenital heart disease: A retrospective study with a comparison group. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]NC
- Anthropometric characteristics and muscle strength remain insufficiently characterized in adults with congenital heart disease (CHD). The aim of the study was to characterize anthropometric indicators and muscle strength in hospitalized adults with CHD and examine differences according to cardiac lesion complexity. Exploratory comparisons with adults without CHD were performed as secondary analys…

- Glucose control and clinical outcomes in surgical patients: A narrative review. [Review]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]NC
- Perioperative hyperglycemia occurs in up to 40% of noncardiac and 80% of cardiac surgery patients, frequently independent of a diabetes diagnosis; it is driven by the neuroendocrine stress response, inflammatory cytokine release, and postoperative insulin resistance. Elevated glucose promotes protein glycosylation, which impairs wound healing and immune function, and it has been consistently asso…

- Etiology, interventions, and predictors of mortality in a tertiary malnutrition clinic: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Severe malnutrition was common in this tertiary referral population. Greater comorbidity burden, severe GLIM malnutrition, and low hemoglobin were associated with higher mortality, supporting risk stratification and close clinical monitoring.

- Perioperative nutrition therapy in high-risk patients: A narrative review. [Review]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]NC
- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), as the plan A and standard for perioperative management, has shifted the focus from routine nutritional support toward the early identification and targeted management of high-risk patients. The new ICD-11 code for undernutrition offers an opportunity to better identify and characterize surgical patients at nutritional risk, while also potentially improving…

- Diagnostic accuracy of gastric aspirate pH measurement for verifying nasogastric tube placement in children receiving home enteral nutrition: An observational diagnostic accuracy study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Gastric aspirate pH measurement showed high diagnostic accuracy for verifying NG tube placement in children receiving home enteral nutrition. Standardized pH testing may offer an inexpensive, practical component of multimethod tube-position assessment. Larger multicenter studies are needed before these findings can be generalized to routine practice. These findings may inform caregiver education and development of standardized pediatric home-care verification protocols.

- Association of enteral nutrition reduction or discontinuation with diarrhea volume and caloric delivery in critically ill adults with diarrhea: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Reducing or discontinuing EN after diarrhea was associated with a modest reduction in diarrhea volume but a substantial caloric deficit. This trade-off should be considered when reducing EN for diarrhea.

- Effects of food-drug interaction-oriented nutritional education on quality of life in Parkinson's disease: A pilot quasi-experimental study. [Journal Article]Nutr Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]NC
- CONCLUSIONS: Short-term nutritional counseling/education targeting food-drug interactions can improve quality of life and dietary habits in people with PD. To further validate and expand upon these promising findings, the long-term efficacy of such targeted nutritional interventions should be demonstrated in future large-scale, randomized controlled trials.
