- Introducing OBEClust: A Pan-European Initiative to Harmonize Obesity Prevention Research and Strengthen Translation Into Policy. [Journal Article]Obes Rev. 2026 Aug 19; :e70210. [Online ahead of print]OR
- Obesity remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in Europe, with substantial health, social, and economic consequences. Despite extensive research and numerous national strategies, obesity prevention efforts remain fragmented across countries, limiting comparability, scalability, and policy impact. The present description introduces the collaborative effort of "OBEClust," a pan-E…

- Long-Term Metabolic Outcomes Following Bariatric Surgery: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Meta-Regression. [Review]Obes Rev. 2026 Aug 19; :e70211. [Online ahead of print]OR
- Bariatric surgery (BS) has short- and medium-term benefits in improving metabolic syndrome (MetS) components, but its long-term impact remains incompletely characterized. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to quantify the long-term effects of BS (≥ 5 years) on fasting blood glucose (FBG), HDL cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), waist circumference (WC), and systolic and diastolic blood p…

- Ethical Issues Raised by Interventions to Prevent or Treat Childhood Obesity: A Systematic Qualitative Review. [Review]Obes Rev. 2026 Aug 13; :e70208. [Online ahead of print]OR
- CONCLUSIONS: The obesity epidemic is a growing, yet largely neglected, global public health crisis. Despite there being an ethical obligation to address this crisis, it is ethically problematic that efforts to reduce childhood obesity rates have primarily focused on individual behavior. Evidence demonstrates that these lifestyle interventions are not only largely ineffective but also cause harm. A fundamental shift towards more system-level actions is needed.

- Obesity and Mental Health: A Missing Piece in the Puzzle. [Journal Article]Obes Rev. 2026 Aug 07; :e70205. [Online ahead of print]OR
- Psychiatric disorders are highly prevalent among individuals living with obesity and contribute to treatment resistance, poor adherence, and adverse health outcomes. Yet, obesity management often remains fragmented, with limited integration between endocrinology, psychiatry, and behavioral health. This Perspective advocates for a mental health framework for obesity care. We emphasize the need for…

- Exploring the Prevalence and Clinical Relevance of Health Literacy in Severe Obesity: A Scoping Review. [Review]Obes Rev. 2026 Aug 02; :e70201. [Online ahead of print]OR
- Recent studies suggest that health literacy (HL) may play an important role in management of individuals living with severe obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m[2]), but to date, there has been no attempt to synthesize characteristics and outcomes of these studies. To explore the prevalence of low HL in people with severe obesity, and how HL may impact on health outcomes and management of severe obesity, six d…

- Despite all efforts, obesity remains a major health concern worldwide, with continuously increasing rates, affecting approx. 14% of the total world population, being as high as 43% in some countries. As obesity is related to numerous comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and some types of cancer, the consequences for the individual and society at large are drastic. Th…

- Nonadherence to GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Among Individuals With Overweight or Obesity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials. [Review]Obes Rev. 2026 Jul 26; :e70200. [Online ahead of print]OR
- CONCLUSIONS: GLP-1 receptor agonists were associated with a lower overall nonadherence rate in RCTs compared with control treatments, suggesting higher persistence. However, ADR-related nonadherence was significantly higher, particularly due to gastrointestinal side effects. These findings highlight the need for strategies to improve treatment tolerability and adherence in real-world settings.

- Sleep and Its Impact on the Success of Weight Loss Interventions in Adults With Excess Weight: A Systematic Review. [Systematic Review]Obes Rev. 2026 Sep; 27(9):e70199.OR
- CONCLUSIONS: Sleep satisfaction and sleep efficiency may support weight loss in behavioral interventions, whereas sleep duration shows inconsistent associations and sleep restriction may impair fat loss. Evidence for sleep regularity, timing, and alertness remains limited. High-quality experimental studies are needed to clarify the causal role of sleep health in weight loss outcomes.
