- Meibomian Gland IL-17 Expression Is Associated with Gland Dysfunction Following Corneal Nerve Injury. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Oct 29. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that MG IL-17 expression increases following corneal nerve injury and may contribute to gland dysfunction. Targeting IL-17 may benefit patients with post-surgical MG dysfunction.

- Intrastromal voriconazole and amphotericin B for fungal keratitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]Ocul Surf. 2026 Oct 28; 42:385-396. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Current comparative evidence is insufficient to establish the efficacy of IS-VCZ or IS-AMB relative to existing antifungal therapies. Uncontrolled studies report favorable healing outcomes, but these findings cannot establish treatment efficacy. Intrastromal antifungal therapy may have a role as adjunctive or salvage treatment, but higher-quality comparative studies with standardized protocols are needed.

- Membranous conjunctivitis in acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease: Longitudinal ocular outcomes. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Oct 22; 42:376-384. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Membranous conjunctivitis is a severe inflammatory ocular GVHD phenotype that occurs in both acute and chronic GVHD and is associated with persistent tear dysfunction and conjunctival fibrosis, underscoring the importance of pre-HCT ophthalmic examination and post-HCT surveillance for early recognition and coordinated multidisciplinary management.

- Infectious keratitis and endophthalmitis following Boston Type I keratoprosthesis: Incidence, risk factors, and long-term outcomes. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Oct 16. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Infectious keratitis and endophthalmitis remain serious complications after Boston Type I KPro. Endophthalmitis occurred most often in the first postoperative year but continued during long-term follow-up. Immune-mediated ocular disease was associated with endophthalmitis in the adjusted model, whereas prior HSV keratitis showed a borderline adjusted association. Preexisting eyelid/adnexal abnormality was associated with infectious keratitis in univariable analysis; this finding is exploratory. Long-term surveillance and careful management of the ocular surface and eyelids remain central to postoperative care.

- CONCLUSIONS: We provide the first high-resolution single-cell transcriptome atlas of DM-associated alterations in the human corneolimbal niche and identify molecular pathways and cellular populations that may contribute to compromised corneal homeostasis and regenerative capacity in DM.

- The mtROS-Stat1 axis defines an acinar dysfunctional state linking metabolic stress to immune activation in cigarette smoking-associated dry eye disease. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Oct 15; 42:359-375. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings define a mtROS-Stat1-DAAC axis that links metabolic stress to epithelial dysfunction and immune activation in CS-associated DED. This work provides a mechanistic framework connecting environmental exposure to tissue pathology and highlights potential therapeutic strategies for intervention.

- Impact of image selection on corneal nerve and dendritic cell density quantification using in vivo confocal microscopy. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Sep 24; 42:287-294. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Independent-image selection gives poorer reproducibility of CNFL and DCD than multiple graders using the same-image sets. The same-image sets yielded excellent agreement, suggesting that studies relying on a single selection of five or fewer images should be interpreted with caution, as a single selection is more prone to rater bias. Because a single set of selected images reflects real-world practice, we recommend that future studies use multiple graders, each independently selecting and grading images, with more than five images per participant where feasible.

- Species-specific tear proteomic signatures in humans and rabbits: A DIA mass spectrometry comparative study. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Sep 23; 42:306-316. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: Human and rabbit tears share a conserved core proteome while exhibiting distinct species-associated proteomic profiles. Rabbit-enriched proteins warrant further functional investigation to determine their roles in tear film stability and to evaluate their potential for future therapeutic strategies aimed at reducing excessive tear evaporation in humans.

- Multiplexed 3D virtual histology enables in situ mapping of meibomian gland innervation. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Sep 18; 42:273-285. [Online ahead of print]OS
- Meibomian glands possess intricate 3D architecture and uniquely rich innervation among sebaceous glands. Disruption of gland function and progressive morphological degeneration are central to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), the leading cause of evaporative dry eye disease (eDED), though the role of altered innervation to this pathogenesis remains unknown. However, quantifying these structures …

- IL-33-driven ILC2 activation maintains ocular surface immune homeostasis in dry eye. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Sep 09; 42:257-272. [Online ahead of print]OS
- CONCLUSIONS: The IL-33/ST2-ILC2 axis, with coordinated IL-13 and AREG outputs, constitutes a critical innate repair module that promotes mucosal healing under desiccating stress. These findings provide mechanistic insights into ocular surface resilience, and a framework for investigating endogenous repair in early-stage or environmentally induced DED.
