- Co-developing the Child and Adolescent Mentally Healthy Classroom (CAMH Class) intervention for use in routine teaching in secondary schools. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359563.Plos
- Addressing the mental health needs of children and young people requires integrated and multidisciplinary action to reduce the risk of detrimental outcomes. Schools offer a unique environment for such provision. However, there is a critical need for school-based interventions that are feasible, co-designed, transdiagnostic, sustainable, and cost-effective beyond the conclusion of the trial, while…

- Predictors of immunological non-response despite virological suppression in people living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0358793.Plos
- Immunological Nonresponse (INR) in people living with HIV (PLWH) is characterized by inadequate CD4+ T-cell recovery despite effective viral suppression through antiretroviral therapy (ART). This systematic review and meta-analysis identify key clinical, demographic, and molecular predictors of INR to optimize immune recovery strategies. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in accordan…

- Relationship between neonatal glutamine supplementation and amino acid profiles, protein synthesis in splanchnic tissues and the plasma metabolome in 5-day-old piglets with low birth weight. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359788.Plos
- The incidence of low birthweight (LBiW) piglets, which show impaired growth compared to normal birthweight (NBiW) littermates, has increased with litter size. We previously reported that glutamine increased the bodyweight and plasma glutamine concentrations in LBiW piglets, with no effect on jejunal glutamine concentrations or glutamine transport and metabolism mRNA abundance. In this study, we i…

- Socioeconomic and clinical factors associated with odontogenic infection types among hospitalised patients in Periurban Ghana. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0360737.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Unemployment and systemic comorbidity were associated with more severe presentations, and rural residence with NF specifically. Findings are associational and describe variation in infection type among admitted patients rather than infection risk, within a retrospective single-centre design.

- Quantifying the unique needs of women with lower limb loss: A national, cross-sectional, survey-based needs assessment. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359172.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: An important contribution of this exploratory needs assessment was its ability to identify candidate constructs that may serve as building blocks for developing a clinically relevant patient-reported outcome measure for women with lower limb loss. Future research should build on these findings to develop and validate women-specific outcome measures, ultimately supporting limb loss care teams in providing optimal, individualized care for this underserved population.

- Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide, emphasizing the need for accurate, automated, and clinically interpretable diagnostic systems. Although existing deep learning (DL) models have achieved promising performance in classifying lung nodules as benign or malignant, most approaches are limited to binary classification and provide insufficient support for de…

- A layered stacking ensemble approach for missing data imputation. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359843.Plos
- Missing data is a challenging issue in data analysis. Researchers often address the issue by simply removing incomplete cases from the analysis. However, this approach reduces the sample size and can undermine the accuracy of statistical estimates. Alternatively, imputation techniques can be used to replace missing values with plausible estimates, resulting in a more complete dataset and more rel…

- Hospital wastewater as a significant source of microplastics in Northern Iran: Abundance, polymer composition, and environmental risk assessment. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0358340.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Hospital wastewater is a significant source of MPs, particularly hazardous polymers such as PVC and PU. These findings highlight the need for targeted mitigation strategies, including advanced treatment processes and reduced use of toxic polymers in healthcare settings, to minimize MP discharge and protect environmental and public health.

- Intraoperative hypotension and postoperative acute kidney injury or myocardial injury after liver resection: A protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0357750.Plos
- Liver resection creates a clinical tension between limiting operative bleeding and maintaining organ perfusion. Low central venous pressure, fluid restriction, vascular inflow occlusion and vasoactive treatment can coincide with lower arterial pressure, yet existing reviews have centred on blood loss and transfusion. They have not resolved whether directly quantified intraoperative hypotension is…

- CONCLUSIONS: A SVIL missense variant is associated with disease severity and may influence host cytoskeletal processes relevant to COVID-19 severity.

- This study aimed to develop a one-step loop-mediated isothermal amplification combined with a lateral flow dipstick (LAMP-LFD) DNA biosensor for the detection of α0-thalassemia (SEA deletion). Genomic DNA was obtained from 48 α0-thalassemia (SEA deletion)-positive and 48 (SEA deletion)-negative (normal) Thai subjects. DNA was analyzed by LAMP assay at 61°C for 60 min using specific primers for th…

- Texture-aware diffusion modelling for severity-conditioned synthetic progression-like visualization of diabetic foot ulcers from single images. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359540.Plos
- Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are serious complications of diabetes associated with delayed healing, infection, and limb amputation. Modelling DFU progression remains challenging because publicly available image datasets generally contain independent single-timepoint images rather than longitudinal follow-up sequences. This study proposes a texture-aware conditional diffusion framework for generati…

- Assessing cultural awareness and competency in nursing education: A cross-sectional study of undergraduate nursing students in Ireland. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0359851.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: The cultural awareness scores in this study were moderately high among undergraduate nursing students, consistent with previous research using the CAS instrument. The findings suggest an association between ethnic background and perceptions of culturally inclusive educational practices and highlight the need for further research to explore these patterns and inform the development of culturally responsive nursing education.
