- Functional and Structural Characterization of a Novel PROC Missense Mutation (p.Ser312Trp) in Pediatric Protein C Deficiency. [Journal Article]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]PB
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first functional and structural characterization of p.Ser312Trp, a novel PROC mutation causing Type II protein C deficiency in a Chinese pediatric patient. Our findings expand the mutational spectrum of HPCD and provide mechanistic insights into how this substitution selectively impairs catalytic function without affecting protein secretion, offering valuable evidence for molecular diagnosis and genetic counseling.

- CONCLUSIONS: Standardized perioperative management in CAYA is possible and can lead to early mobilization and a low complication rate, despite complex complementary treatments (chemotherapy/radiotherapy) and limited access to intensive care resources.

- Natural Killer Cell-Based Immunotherapy in Retinoblastoma: Biological Basis, Preclinical Evidence, and Translational Challenges. [Review]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]PB
- Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy of childhood. Although current multimodal treatment has considerably improved survival, advanced and recurrent disease still requires enucleation in a substantial proportion of cases and carries long-term psychosocial consequences. RB is driven primarily by biallelic inactivation of the RB1 tumor suppressor gene, together with …

- Patterns of Pediatric Cancer Care at a Tertiary Center in Pakistan: A Hospital-Based Registry Analysis. [Journal Article]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]PB
- CONCLUSIONS: This large registry-based descriptive analysis provides a comprehensive overview of pediatric cancer presentation, diagnostic pathways, and treatment timelines at a major referral center in Pakistan. Findings demonstrated strengths in diagnostic confirmation and rapid treatment initiation following diagnosis, while identifying gaps including delays before first medical assessment and a substantial burden of infection-related mortality. This work demonstrates the feasibility of implementing large-scale hospital-based cancer registries in resource-constrained settings to support quality improvement and health system strengthening.

- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Mortality Among Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Recipients: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]PB
- Children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may require pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission; a 2008 meta-regression reported 60% mortality. We estimated contemporary PICU mortality, temporal trends, and mortality risk factors. We searched PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library from 2006 to 2026 for pediatric HSCT studies reporting PICU mortality. Estimates were poo…

- CONCLUSIONS: BNHES AYA females hospitalized for HMB presented with more severe IDA and at a greater interval from menarche despite proximity to the hospital, suggesting that complex SDOH factors, including SES, led to progressive anemia at presentation. Standardizing laboratory testing, bleeding disorder (BDO) screening, and the use of hormonal and iron therapies in the outpatient setting could potentially reduce disparities in care among these populations.

- Lorlatinib-Containing Therapy for MYCN-Amplified, ALK-Mutated Neuroblastoma With Bulky Leptomeningeal Relapse: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Oct 29. [Online ahead of print]PB
- Central nervous system (CNS) relapse of neuroblastoma carries a poor prognosis, and craniospinal irradiation (CSI) poses substantial long-term toxicity in young children. We report a toddler with MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma harboring somatic ALK R1275Q who developed extensive leptomeningeal relapse with paraplegia. Lorlatinib-containing chemotherapy resulted in near-complete resolution of leptom…

- Hospital Readmission After Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis of 30-Day Readmission. [Review]Pediatr Blood Cancer. 2026 Oct 28. [Online ahead of print]PB
- Hospital readmission is common after pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), but estimates vary, and associated factors are poorly characterized. We systematically reviewed unplanned readmission after autologous or allogeneic HSCT in pediatric populations and pooled the proportion readmitted within 30 days after discharge from the index HSCT admission. - CONCLUSIONS: ctDNA and NB-mRNA are detectable at multiple time points in patients with relapsed or refractory neuroblastoma treated with [131]I-MIBG. Both markers correlate with each other and with measures of disease burden, but not with objective response.
