- Let's do it! Fully embrace movement as our identity. [Historical Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Aug 31; 106(9).PT
- In the 30th Maley Lecture, Nancy Bloom, PT, DPT, MSOT, honors the significant contributions and collaborative spirit of John H. P. Maley in advocating for unity and progress in physical therapy. This lecture traces the history and foundational principles of movement and diagnosis in physical therapy. Despite consensus on our identity as movement experts, challenges remain, including clarity in te…

- Sustained Three-Year Impact of a Physical Therapy Quality Improvement Project in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. [Journal Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite variable resources and increased illness severity in the post-intervention period, durable improvements in the percentage of patients receiving physical therapy, odds of receiving physical therapy, time to physical therapy, and proportion of days with physical therapy occurred for 3 years post-QI. Secondarily, the during and post periods were associated with modest reductions in ICU LOS.

- Association Between the Short Physical Performance Battery and Hospitalization-Associated Disability in Older Patients With Heart Failure. [Journal Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Sep 17. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Baseline SPPB scores assessed after transfer to the general ward were independently associated with HAD onset and may help identify older patients hospitalized with HF who are at increased risk for HAD. External validation is warranted before clinical implementation.

- Synergistic Effects of Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy and Mirror Therapy on Neuroplasticity and Functional Recovery in Rats With Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy. [Journal Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Combined CIMT and MT may promote the recovery of motor coordination and balance, support forelimb suspension performance, and improve spatial working memory in rats with HCP. These functional improvements were accompanied by enhanced motor cortical neuroplasticity involving neuronal survival, synaptic remodeling, dendritic spine density, and myelin integrity.

- Physical Exercise Reduces Fall-Related Outcomes Among People With Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Journal Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Physical exercise is effective in improving fall-related outcomes among people with stroke, particularly for people in the chronic stage with mild/moderate disability levels may gain more benefits. Physical exercise programs incorporating balance training and cognitive components may be more effective for fall prevention.

- Evaluating the Effectiveness of an Integrated Treatment of Vestibular Rehabilitation and Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Chronic Dizziness in a Community-Based Population: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Phys Ther. 2026 Sep 09. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Both groups showed sustained improvement in dizziness-related handicap over 12 months, with no statistically significant between-group differences in the primary outcomes. Further research is needed to clarify the usefulness of combined vestibular rehabilitation and cognitive behavioral strategies.
