  • Respiratory depression with concomitant use of opioids and cannabinoids: a case report. [Journal Article]
Postgrad Med. 2026 Oct 01; :1-4. [Online ahead of print]Messick CL, Svendsen M, … Rejbi MPM
  • CONCLUSIONS: In our case, we describe how 100 mg cannabinoid product was a contributing factor in acute opioid toxicity possibly due to active inhibition of UGT2B7 (UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 2B7), a liver enzyme crucial in the metabolism of morphine. For patients who use cannabis, explicit counseling regarding the risks of combining high-dose opioids with high-dose cannabinoids is needed. Proactive counseling with patients in this changing landscape of cannabinoid use will become essential for their safety in the treatment of cancer-related pain.
  • Diabetes and skin health: a statewide survey on Ohio healthcare providers' knowledge. [Journal Article]
Postgrad Med. 2026 Oct 01; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]Beach SC, Healy AM, Hughes ASPM
  • CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest potential knowledge gaps on the topic, which warrants further evaluation of the quality of diabetes care and patient outcomes. These results may help inform educational efforts for HCPs to enhance overall knowledge of dermatologic manifestations of diabetes. Further studies should assess knowledge and practice patterns among primary care healthcare professionals.

    Postgrad Med. 2026 Sep 02; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]Tehçi T, Şahin M, … Karaduman MEPM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Primary care physicians demonstrated a basic level of knowledge regarding CU; however, important gaps remain, particularly in treatment escalation, follow-up strategies, and appropriate use of diagnostic tests. These findings highlight the need for targeted educational interventions and guideline-based training to improve CU management in primary care.
  • Prognostic performance of APUA, APUA-RO2, and CURB-65 scores in patients with critical pneumonia. [Journal Article]
Postgrad Med. 2026 Aug 29; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]Özdemir S, Altunok İ, Osoydan Satıcı MPM
  • CONCLUSIONS: All three severity scores demonstrated moderate discriminative ability for predicting 30-day mortality in critically ill pneumonia patients. Among them, APUA-RO2 showed the highest prognostic performance, although its overall discrimination remained moderate. Therefore, these scores may assist, but should not replace, clinical judgment when assessing critically ill patients. Prospective multicenter validation is warranted.
