- Defeating fear with exposure therapy delivered by mental health nurses in primary care for anxiety disorders in older adults: a protocol for a cluster-randomized controlled trial (DeFEAD65+). [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Even though participating in present study involves a time investment for patients, we expect that they will benefit from the offered exposure therapy in a more effective way than usual care, as we anticipate a beneficial impact on their anxiety symptoms. If proven effective, exposure therapy could represent a valuable addition to existing clinical guidelines for the treatment of anxiety disorders in older adults within primary care settings.

- Sex differences in the association between Hcy levels and cognitive deficits among individuals with first-episode and drug-naive major depressive disorder. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight that Hcy levels differ between the sexes, and that in males, MDD Hcy levels were significantly associated with the severity of positive symptoms and cognitive deficits. These results support the potential of Hcy as a biomarker for cognitive deficits and positive psychotic symptoms, which provide a target for therapeutic intervention in male patients with MDD.

- Patterns of antidepressant persistence in mood and anxiety disorders: a retrospective population-based cohort study. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Antidepressant persistence among individuals with mood and anxiety disorders declined over time after the initial prescription and varied by demographic, clinical, and healthcare utilization factors. These findings underscore the need to identify individuals at higher risk of discontinuation and support further research to inform clinical and health system strategies to improve persistence.

- Phase-sensitive integration of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders: a scoping review. [Systematic Review]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Based on recurrent descriptive patterns identified across the included studies, a preliminary conceptual framework was developed to organize the observed MI-CBT integration approaches. The reviewed literature suggests that MI may have potential value for addressing ambivalence, strengthening the therapeutic alliance, managing resistance, and supporting engagement during clinically challenging phases of CBT. However, the current evidence base remains limited and heterogeneous. Future research should evaluate this preliminary conceptual framework across diverse clinical populations and implementation settings while clarifying optimal sequencing strategies, fidelity procedures, dosage parameters, and the role of therapist-supported and asynchronous digital CBT interventions.

- The relationship between dietary nutrient intake and adolescent depression based on the dietary inflammation index: a case-control study. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study underscores a positive correlation between the E-DII and both the risk and severity of adolescent depression, emphasizing the critical role of dietary factors in the prevention and management of adolescent depression. From a clinical and public health perspective, early dietary assessment and promotion of anti-inflammatory dietary patterns may provide a feasible adjunctive strategy for reducing depression risk in adolescents.

- Architectures and strategies for the differential diagnosis of adolescent depression and anxiety: bridging tabular deep learning, interpretability, and scale streamlining. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that reliable AI-assisted diagnosis requires the integrated optimization of model architecture and data strategy. This approach, combined with an interpretability-based scale streamlining strategy, provides a practical and evidence-based implementation path for transforming machine learning models into efficient, deployable clinical diagnostic tools.

- Markers of blood-brain barrier and intestinal mucosal barrier in insomnia disorder: an observational study linking wake-promoting neurotransmitters to sleep efficiency. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study observed dysregulation of peripheral wake-promoting neurotransmitters along with markers of blood-brain barrier and intestinal mucosal barrier in ID patients. Notably, ZO-1 showed a statistical mediation effect in the associations between these neurotransmitters and sleep efficiency, though causality cannot be inferred from the cross-sectional design. These clinical findings provide preliminary insights into the molecular features associated with ID and may inform directions for future mechanistic research. Further studies are needed to fully elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

- Sex differences in associations between sleep architecture and CBC-derived immune cell indices in MDD with comorbid insomnia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that sex may shape both the subjective-objective expression of sleep disturbance and lymphocyte-related sleep regulation in patients with MDD and comorbid insomnia. The pattern of poorer subjective sleep quality despite relatively favorable selected PSG characteristics in females, together with sex-dependent lymphocyte associations involving REM sleep and arousal measures, warrants further validation in larger longitudinal studies.

- Pathways to medication adherence: a configurational analysis of psychiatric symptoms and medication attitude in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder receiving long-acting injectable antipsychotics. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiple pathways link psychiatric symptom configurations to medication adherence through medication attitude in patients receiving LAI treatment. Clinicians should consider specific symptom patterns for adherence interventions. Targeted approaches addressing both symptom configurations and medication attitudes may optimize outcomes for schizophrenia spectrum disorder.

- Associations among caregiving burden, social support, hope, mastery, and depressive symptoms in family caregivers of children and young people with mental illness: a chain mediation analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Mental healthcare workers should be aware that majority of family caregivers experience caregiving burden and depressive symptoms, and that programs enhancing family caregivers' social support, hope, and mastery should be considered to support these family caregivers.

- Association between brain functional state indices and eye movement features in patients with anxiety disorders: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 10; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Combined brain functional and eye movement indices may serve as objective, adjunctive measures for the assessment of anxiety disorders, reflecting underlying neural dysregulation.

- Nomogram for predicting the response of modified electroconvulsive therapy in patients with bipolar depressive episodes: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 01; 26(1).BP
- CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram model, incorporating educational level, P wave duration, SDNN, and left atrial diameter, demonstrated favorable predictive performance and clinical utility for MECT response in bipolar depressive episodes. This model provides clinicians with an objective basis to early identify patients likely to benefit and optimize individualized therapies.

- Prevalence and associated factors of suicidal ideation, suicide plans, and suicide attempts among nurses: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: SI and SP are relatively common among nurses, whereas evidence on SA remains limited. The wide prediction intervals suggest that pooled prevalence estimates should be interpreted as summary measures of heterogeneous evidence rather than precise estimates applicable to all nurse populations. Suicide-related outcomes among nurses appear to be influenced by individual psychological factors as well as occupational and contextual conditions, highlighting the need for targeted mental health support and workplace-based preventive strategies.
