- NADPH oxidase-associated oxidative stress and ferroptosis-related injury in calcium oxalate-exposed renal tubular epithelial cells: pharmacological evidence for PI3K/AKT involvement. [Journal Article]Ren Fail. 2026 Dec; 48(1):2750582.RF
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings support a contribution of NOX-associated oxidative stress and ferroptosis-related injury to CaOx-exposed NRK-52E cells. Pharmacological experiments indicate that NOX and PI3K/AKT signaling participate in this phenotype. These findings are limited to an in vitro cell model and require validation in animal and human-relevant systems.

- Artificial intelligence and continuous renal replacement therapy. [Review]Ren Fail. 2026 Dec; 48(1):2750759.RF
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is an important intervention in the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care, and its application scope continues to expand alongside technological advancements and an increasing patient population. However, in current clinical practice, several factors, including individual patient differences, dynamic treatment needs, and the rational …

- Comparison of an AI-enabled single-lead ECG monitor and point-of-care testing for detecting intradialytic hypokalemia. [Journal Article]Ren Fail. 2026 Dec; 48(1):2746815.RF
- CONCLUSIONS: The AI-enabled ECG model demonstrates preliminary screening potential for hypokalemia alongside reliable non-hypokalemic tracking. Although POC testing remains the superior modality for point-in-time analytical precision, AI-enabled ECG offers a noninvasive approach for intradialytic trend monitoring. However, its ability to improve clinical outcomes or safely reduce invasive testing requires formal prospective decision-impact studies.

- Association of non-methane volatile organic compound emission burden with chronic kidney disease: integrated epidemiological, transcriptomic and in vitro analyses. [Journal Article]Ren Fail. 2026 Dec; 48(1):2751342.RF
- CONCLUSIONS: Province-level NMVOC emission burden was associated with CKD. The findings nominate proximal-tubule SLC9A3/SPP1-integrin signaling as a candidate link between NMVOC emission burden and fibroblast activation, warranting validation through individual-level exposure assessment and targeted perturbation studies.

- Acute‑on‑chronic kidney disease (AoCKD): a critical appraisal and call for action to define boundaries and optimize management. [Review]
- Acute‑on‑chronic kidney disease (AoCKD) refers to an acute decline in renal function occurring in individuals with established CKD. Despite its major clinical impact-including increased mortality, accelerated CKD progression, and higher cardiovascular risk-AoCKD remains underrepresented within major guideline frameworks (KDIGO, ADQI, NICE). Our review aims to critically appraise existing guidelin…

- Cross-elbow stent placement for refractory arteriovenous fistula stenosis and chronic total occlusion in hemodialysis patients: a single-center retrospective cohort of 42 cases. [Journal Article]
- Cross-elbow stent placement in hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) has been avoided due to risks of fracture, kinking, deformation, migration, and infection. However, elbow lesions may be refractory to angioplasty and progress to chronic total occlusion (CTO). We evaluated the safety, feasibility, and patency of cross-elbow stenting for AVF salvage. Consecutive adult hemodialysis patients …

- Clinical characteristics and prognosis of IgA nephropathy with predominant light chain deposition. [Journal Article]
- To compare the clinicopathological features, treatment response, and renal outcomes of patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) with κ-dominant, κ-λ co-deposition, or λ-dominant light-chain deposition. This retrospective, single-centre cohort study included 105 patients with primary IgAN who underwent their first native-kidney biopsy. Twenty-one patients with κ-dominant deposition were matched to 42 …

- Trends in incident hemodialysis access and mortality in China: results from China Renal Data System 2000-2024. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Over the 25-year period, initial vascular access among Chinese incident HD patients gradually shifted from CVC to AVF/AVG, reflecting ongoing and considerable improvements in vascular access practice in China. CVC use at HD initiation was associated with higher all-cause mortality compared with AVF/AVG. These findings support early AVF/AVG creation in end-stage kidney disease patients to avoid CVC use at HD initiation.

- Maternal kidney disease and composite kidney outcomes in the offspring. [Journal Article]
- Maternal chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, but its relationship with long-term offspring kidney health remains uncertain. This retrospective maternal-child cohort study examined whether maternal CKD or reduced kidney function before or during pregnancy was associated with a composite kidney outcome in offspring. Live births in the Taiwan Mother and Child …
