- [Recommendation for the recognition, management and follow up of cardiovascular compromise in patients with Pediatric Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome associated with COVID-19 (PIMS-CT). Position statement of Chilean Scientific Societies]. [Consensus Development Conference]
- Since the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the pediatric population has been less affected by the disease both in frequency and severity. However, since April cases of variable presentation and severity characterized by inflammatory phenomena that affect multiple organs have been reported, a condition called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). The literature has reported frequ…

- [Impact on the quality of life of adolescents with diabetes mellitus type 1]. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Metabolic control appears to be the cornerstone that influences the impact on the bidirectional relationship between DM1 and quality of life, however, there is no absolute consensus on the types of factors and degrees that would influence metabolic control.

- [The child with persistent stridor]. [Review]Rev Chil Pediatr. 2020 Dec; 91(6):961-967.RC
- Stridor is an abnormal respiratory sound caused by obstruction or collapse of the laryngotracheal airway, either acutely or chronically. There are different causes, both congenital and acquired, that can produce shortness of breath which may be severe and potentially life-threatening. The clini cal diagnosis must be complemented with an endoscopic airway assessment and sometimes with imaging, to …

- [Craniosynostosis, a pediatric perspective]. [Review]
- Craniosynostosis is defined as the premature fusion of one or more skull sutures, characterized by an abnormal shape of the head. It is a rare condition but should be recognized and timely referred to Neurosurgery in order to prevent complications. The objective of this review is to describe the most frequent clinical and genetic characteristics of this pathology, its classification according to …

- [Brodie's abscess, a pathology difficult to diagnose]. [Case Reports]Rev Chil Pediatr. 2020 Dec; 91(6):947-952.RC
- CONCLUSIONS: The BA's clinical features and lab tests are unspecific, therefore the non-specialist physician should strongly suspect this pathology as a possible differential diagnosis in patients who persist with pain and present imaging alterations, even when there are no other symptoms or normal inflammatory parameters. A bone biopsy is essential for the differential diagnosis of tumor pathologies.

- CONCLUSIONS: Our patient presented ANEC, whose timely diagnosis and management were associated with a favorable neurological evolution in the long term. Although ANEC is an infrequent pathology, it has very high morbidity and mortality rates, so it is very important to have a high degree of suspicion in order to request a targeted imaging study, search for related infectious causes, and start proper treatment.

- [Acute perforated appendicitis with pre-surgical diagnosis and bilateral inguinal hernia in preterm infants]. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Acute appendicitis should be considered within the differential diagnosis in neonates with acute abdominal symptoms, mainly in premature infants. In this case, ultrasound scan allowed us to make the pre-operative diagnosis. The possible association with inguinal hernias should motivate to examine inguinal ducts during imaging assessment and surgical procedure.

- CONCLUSIONS: OM has unknown etiology and can present a malignant course. Due to its unspecific clinical presentation, a comprehensive differential diagnosis should be made and it should consider performing MRI. Early treatment avoids permanent damage of extraocular muscles.

- [Leptin sexual dimorphism, insulin resistance, and body composition in normal weight prepubescent]. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: in normal-weight prepubescents aged between 6-10 years, there are sex differences in adiposity and leptin levels not associated with differences in BMI or insulin resistance. The greater association of leptin with adiposity in girls could be related to a high rate of adipogenesis induced by this hormone.
