- Asymmetric Choroidal Vascular Remodeling Following Temporal Inverted Internal Limiting Membrane Flap Surgery: A Retrospective Longitudinal Study. [Journal Article]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 10; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: Eyes with MH showed reduced CT and CVI preoperatively, followed by a significant postoperative increase after temporal inverted ILM flap surgery. These findings suggest that postoperative choroidal changes may not be uniformly distributed after temporal inverted ILM flap surgery. The more pronounced temporal changes in CVI may be related to surgical manipulation of the temporal ILM, although intrinsic nasal-temporal differences in choroidal structure may also contribute. These findings warrant further investigation in larger prospective studies.

- Intraoperative Intraocular Dexamethasone After Cataract Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Drop-Replacement and Add-On Strategies. [Review]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 30; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative dexamethasone can control postoperative inflammation and may reduce reliance on topical corticosteroids, but heterogeneous formulations, nonrandomized evidence, incomplete reporting, and imprecise safety estimates preclude universal replacement.

- CONCLUSIONS: Collagenase IV showed promising preliminary effects under selected experimental conditions; however, given the small subgroup sizes and variable findings, further controlled studies are required.

- Comparison of Choroidal Vascularity Index Between Type 1 and Type 2 Macular Neovascularization Before and After Anti-VEGF Therapy. [Journal Article]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 28; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: No significant differences in CVI were found between type 1 and type 2 MNV at baseline or final follow-up, and longitudinal changes were comparable between subtypes. These findings do not support a predominant role of choroidal vascularity in distinguishing MNV subtypes. As retinal pigment epithelium integrity was not assessed, its potential contribution remains unclear. Larger prospective studies with standardized treatment protocols are needed to clarify the mechanisms underlying different MNV growth patterns.

- Longitudinal Ocular Surface Changes in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Receiving Hormonal or Ovulation-Induction Therapy: A Prospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 28; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: PCOS is associated with subclinical ocular surface dysfunction and increased corneal thickness. Treatment modality was associated with differing ocular outcomes: HT use was associated with worsening dry eye parameters, while clomiphene citrate use was associated with improved tear film stability and meibomian gland integrity; this between-group divergence remained significant after adjusting for baseline values and for baseline hormonal/inflammatory covariates (all adjusted p < .001 except IOP). However, because treatment groups were not randomized and differed at baseline, these associations should not be interpreted as causal drug effects. Objective ocular surface assessment should be considered in PCOS management to guide therapy and monitor ocular health.

- CONCLUSIONS: Both treatments improved retinal anatomy, while faricimab produced greater fibrovascular RPED height reduction and more complete serous component resolution.

- CONCLUSIONS: IFS represents a final common anatomical manifestation of stromal hydration within a pre-existing lamellar plane. Although most cases are pressure-driven, endothelial dysfunction-including transient pump failure after DSO-must be recognized to enable mechanism-based management.

- ICL Sizing and Vault Prediction: A Systematic Review of Mathematical Models and Calculation Formulas. [Review]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 09; :1-14. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiple nomograms and machine learning models are available for ICL sizing and vault prediction; but no single approach performed universally better across populations, devices, and clinical settings. Because measurement conditions, imaging platforms, institutional protocols, and surgeon-specific factors can all influence model performance, any chosen formula should be validated locally before routine use, and combining multiple validated nomograms may support safer clinical decision-making.

- Understanding Pterygium Surgery Outcomes: Revisiting Definitions of Recurrence and Postoperative Complications. [Review]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 06; :1-6. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: Substantial variation exists in the literature on how recurrence and post-operative complications are defined following pterygium surgery. Establishing standardized classification systems is necessary and will enhance consistency in outcome reporting, improve clinical decision-making, and facilitate future meta-analyses and research goals.

- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with Sjögren's disease have poor QoL, and worse physical health is associated with increasing age and fatigue rather than ocular sicca alone. These findings underscore the importance of fatigue management and multidisciplinary support in the management of SjD.

- Evaluation of Ocular Surface Inflammation and Corneal Microstructural Changes in Pterygium Using in Vivo Confocal Microscopy: A Comparative Study of Surgical Techniques. [Journal Article]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 05; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: Pterygium is associated with ocular surface inflammation and corneal microstructural alterations detectable by IVCM. Surgical treatment improves the health of the ocular surface, and both methods showed favorable anti-inflammatory results in a short follow-up period of one month; however, it would be more beneficial to evaluate this in conjunction with long-term outcomes. IVCM may serve as a valuable tool for assessing postoperative inflammatory changes in pterygium patients.

- Retinal Microvascular Effects of Internal Limiting Membrane Peeling: A Meta-Analysis. [Review]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Aug 29; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]SO
- Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling is widely used to relieve tangential traction and improve anatomical closure. As the ILM is continuous with Müller cells enstheathing retinal capillaries, peeling may impact the retinal microvasculature. We evaluated whether peeling impacts retinal vessel density as measured by optical coherence tomography angiography.

- Evaluation of Large Language Model-Generated Recommendations in Glaucoma Surgical Decision-Making. [Journal Article]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Aug 29; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: LLM-based chatbots can provide acceptable surgical guidance for straightforward primary surgical cases, but their utility is limited in high-risk or complex clinical settings. The observed deficiencies in rationale and increased safety risks in complex cases suggest that LLMs should be integrated as auxiliary decision-support tools under expert supervision rather than used as autonomous decision-makers in glaucoma surgery planning.
