- Etiology of Symptomatic Male Urethritis in the Brazilian Amazon and Agreement Between Two Molecular Testing Workflows. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Among 117 men with symptomatic urethritis in the Brazilian Amazon, Neisseria gonorrhoeae was most frequent (53.0 to 56.4%, across the two molecular workflows), followed by Chlamydia trachomatis (14.5 to 15.4%), Mycoplasma genitalium (6.8%), and Trichomonas vaginalis (1.7%). Overall molecular workflow agreement was 92.3% for CT and 82.9% for NG.

- Integrating Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing into a Community-Based Cohort of Latine Young Adults: Patterns and Predictors of Uptake. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: While many tested based on perceived STI risk, uptake fell short of public health recommendations. Low uptake of mail-in testing highlights the need for testing models that better align with Latine young adults' preferences and circumstances. Findings underscore the importance of understanding testing barriers and normalizing STI screening as routine preventive care.

- Syphilitic Leukoplakia with Epithelial Dysplasia: A Diagnostic Challenge Highlighted by a Case Report and PRISMA-Compliant Systematic Review. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Oral syphilis may present as a non-scrapable white lesion that clinically mimics oral leukoplakia. This combined case report and systematic review aimed to characterize syphilis-associated oral lesions with a white component and to evaluate separately cases classified as syphilitic leukoplakia. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched through December 2025. Eligible English-langua…

- Screening and prevalence of Gonorrhea and Chlamydia in inner-city Johannesburg: Findings from recruitment for a clinical trial on a novel antibiotic. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Sexually transmitted infections are endemic in South Africa, partly because of the limitations of syndromic management as the standard approach. In recruitment initiative for a novel gonorrhea antibiotic trial, 8189 adults aged ≥18 years were reached and 3381 tested for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, revealing high prevalence, especially among young people.

- Molecular Detection and Codetection of Lower Genital Tract Microorganisms among Women Attending an STI Referral Service in the Brazilian Amazon. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Among 133 women attending an STI referral service in the Brazilian Amazon, multiplex real-time PCR identified a heterogeneous microbiological profile, including STI pathogens, bacterial vaginosis-associated microorganisms, Candida species, and frequent codetection. Clinical and epidemiological characteristics showed variable associations, while self-reported vaginal discharge had limited ability …

- Treatment variability among people assigned male at birth with repeat positive Mycoplasma genitalium tests: a case series. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite frequent reinfection, most repeat positive tests represented persistent MG infections. All cases achieved cure after initial treatment failure, but many required multiple regimens over several weeks.

- Risk of Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Pregnant Persons With Substance Use Diagnoses. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Nov 01; 53(11):859-864.ST
- CONCLUSIONS: Those with substance diagnoses, particularly stimulant and/or co-occurring diagnoses, are at elevated risk for STIs in pregnancy. There remains unmet need for prevention, screening, and treatment to address STIs in pregnancy among those with substance use.

- Male Partner Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials. [Systematic Review]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Nov 01; 53(11):846-852.ST
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the commonest vaginal infection globally, resulting from a shift from Lactobacillus-dominant microbiota to an overgrowth of anaerobes. Although standard antibiotic therapy achieves short-term cure, recurrence remains high. Recent evidence suggests that male genital microbiota is a potential reservoir for BV-associated bacteria (BVAB), prompting investigation into the r…

- Associations Between Maternal Mental Health and Congenital Syphilis Birth Outcomes: Analysis of Georgia Surveillance Data, 2018-2023. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Prebirth MMHC mentions captured during STI case investigations were associated with increased CS prevalence and may serve as an early indicator of vulnerability. Incorporating mental health-informed follow-up into STI surveillance workflows could enhance care coordination and strengthen CS prevention.

- HIV transmission behaviors, detectable HIV-RNA and curable STI prevalence among Ugandan men with HIV with reproductive goals, with and without infertility experiences. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Many men with HIV (MWH) want children. MWH with unmet reproductive goals may prioritize conception over preventing HIV/STI transmission. Therefore, we evaluated whether MWH with unmet versus met reproductive goals were more likely to have detectable HIV-RNA or STIs, and explored socio-structural factors (e.g., HIV/infertility stigma, gender dynamics) conceptualized to influence this association. …

- Syphilis Screening Among Commercially-Insured Pregnant Women in the United States. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: These data indicate a systematic gap in syphilis screening among pregnant women, especially in the first trimester, when timely screening may allow for early intervention. Most pregnant women were only screened once, reducing providers' ability to identify syphilis infections. Improved prenatal screening is essential to addressing the CS epidemic.

- Current Data to Inform Point-of-Care Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections in United States Healthcare Settings: A Narrative Review. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]ST
- Point-of-care testing (POCT) for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) holds promise to improve care across clinical settings in the United States (US). However, multiple barriers to widespread adoption remain, and universal use will not be appropriate. At a minimum, decision-makers require robust, real-world evidence that STI POCTs improve patient outcomes within specific clinical contexts for …
