- Abnormal resting-state EEG microstates correlate with objective sleep parameters in insomnia disorder. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 12; 149:109309. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: ID patients present significant abnormalities in EEG microstates, and the occurrence of microstate D is correlated with objective sleep indicators of PSG. These findings suggest that EEG microstate parameters may reflect abnormalities in the sleep architecture of ID and may provide references for analyzing the cortical hyperarousal mechanism of chronic insomnia, constructing objective assessment schemes, and developing targeted neuroregulation interventions.

- CONCLUSIONS: We found no evidence that solriamfetol initiation was associated with reduced CPAP adherence.

- Exploring infant safe sleep practices and sleep arrangement motivations in a South African sample. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 13; 149:109319. [Online ahead of print]SM
- Sudden unexpected infant death remains a significant public health concern, with South Africa reporting among the highest incidence globally. However, little is known about infant sleep practices, motivations for sleep arrangements, or adherence to safe sleep recommendations within this context. This study explored caregiver and child characteristics associated with potential sleep-related risk, …

- Circadian rhythm maturation in infancy: a large-scale analysis of sleep-wake pattern development from 3 to 18 months based on longitudinal data. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Sep 21; 149:109276. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: The decline in total sleep across infancy results from reductions in daytime sleep through fewer and eventually shorter naps. Bedtime regularity increases most rapidly before 9 months, and individual differences emerge early and persist, suggesting enduring circadian traits are already established in infancy. Substantial inter-individual variability underscores the importance of individually tailored guidance.

- Standardizing wearable sleep data for clinical, research, and public health use: A World Sleep Society specification. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 31; :109310. [Online ahead of print]SM
- Consumer health trackers (CHTs) capable of estimating sleep have become widely adopted and are increasingly used by individuals, researchers, and healthcare professionals to characterize habitual sleep patterns and their relationship to health. Although many manufacturers report similarly named sleep measures, these are often defined, computed, and represented differently across the industry, hin…

- Reported nasal obstruction is associated with multiple sleep-related symptoms but shows only a modest association with the apnea-hypopnea index. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 09; 149:109313. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Reported nasal obstruction was associated with multiple patient-reported symptoms and, to a lesser extent, with higher adjusted AHI estimates among patients with moderate and severe nasal obstruction. These findings suggest that nasal obstruction should not be considered solely as a marker of objective OSA severity, but rather as a complementary clinical dimension capturing patient-perceived sleep-related impairment that is not fully reflected by AHI.

- Frequent chronic pain in relation to sleep disturbances: A nationally representative study of adults in the United States. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Sep 25; 149:109291. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: There were complex associations between FCP and sleep health among US adults that varied by sociodemographic characteristics. Targeted intervention studies are warranted.

- Association between daily light exposure and rest-activity rhythms in schizophrenia: A cross-sectional analysis of the LENS study. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 12; 149:109316. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that greater daytime light exposure is associated with more robust, phase-advanced, and stable rest-activity rhythms, whereas nighttime light exposure corresponds to more dampened, delayed, and unstable rest-activity rhythms in schizophrenia patients.

- Obstructive sleep apnoea and Alzheimer's disease pathology: a review of plausible pathological mechanisms and potential modifying impact of hypertension. [Review]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 06; 149:109307. [Online ahead of print]SM
- Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is estimated to account for up to 75% of all dementia cases, of which there is a global prevalence of 50 million. There are no curative treatments available for AD dementia, therefore, early identification of risk factors is paramount. Up to 40% of all dementia cases may be attributable to modifiable risk factors. One such risk factor is poor sleep. Obstructive sleep apno…

- Longitudinal associations of obstructive sleep apnea with clinical disorders relevant to school functioning in school-aged children: A multicenter cohort study. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Oct 05; 149:109308. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: PSG-supported OSA without AT was longitudinally associated with subsequently documented disorders across multiple domains relevant to school functioning. These findings suggest that school-functioning concerns associated with pediatric OSA may also be reflected in clinically recognized disorders during longitudinal care.

- Ventilatory burden and blood pressure response to CPAP: A secondary analysis of the APPLES trial. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Sep 29; 149:109296. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Among participants with High VB and good CPAP adherence, active CPAP was associated with an early reduction in morning SBP relative to sham CPAP. This association was observed at 2 months but not at 6 months. Prospective studies incorporating prespecified treatment-interaction analyses are required to determine whether VB can identify blood pressure responders to CPAP.

- Visual classification of nocturnal transcutaneous CO2 and oximetry patterns in slowly progressive neuromuscular diseases: a derivation and feasibility study. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Sep 29; 149:109293. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Visual classification of overnight TcCO2 and SpO2 recordings was feasible and showed moderate inter-rater agreement for hypercapnic clusters and the sawtooth oximetry pattern. The visual profiles were associated with selected physiological characteristics, but these associations primarily support face validity. Prospective external validation is required to determine whether this classification provides information beyond conventional quantitative indices or improves clinical decision-making.

- CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary findings support the feasibility and acceptability of web-based population screening for iRBD. However, the limited specificity of RBDSQ positivity highlights the need to integrate questionnaire-based screening with additional clinical and neurological information. Ongoing recruitment and longitudinal follow-up will enable the development of improved strategies for identifying individuals at increased risk of α-synucleinopathies.

- Personalized definition of short sleep using long-term wearable sleep distributions. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 Sep 30; 149:109294. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Anchoring short sleep to an individual's habitual sleep distribution captures relative sleep shortfall beyond absolute duration, better characterizing the functional impact of 'short' sleep. Preventive strategies may benefit from limiting pSS accumulation together with addressing sporadic inadequate sleep.
