  • Health literacy is a critical component of high-quality stroke care. Across the continuum from prevention through recovery, health literacy is strongly associated with functional outcomes and stroke-related morbidity. Despite its importance, it is often overlooked, leaving patients and caregivers overwhelmed by communication demands that exceed their capacity. These mismatches are especially pron…
  • David G. Sherman Lecture: The Eternal Quest for Optimal Stroke Prevention. [Review]
    Stroke. 2026 Oct; 57(10):3195-3199.Chaturvedi SS
  • Despite decades of clinical trial activity in stroke prevention, critical gaps remain in the evidence base guiding management of symptomatic carotid and intracranial stenosis and the quality of anticoagulation care delivered to patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This article synthesizes recent evidence and ongoing research efforts addressing 2 enduring challenges: demonstrating the value of …
  • Parent Perspectives on I-ACQUIRE Therapy. [Journal Article]
Stroke. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]Yale MM, Hindery KA, … Ramey SLS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Parents of I-ACQUIRE children reported higher positive feelings and notably fewer concerns about lack of benefits compared with UT. Across all groups, some parents (<52%) reported treatment-related stress, difficulty, and fatigue. These findings provide new perspectives from parents' lived experiences to help families and clinicians in treatment decision-making.
  • Neural Repair Therapies After Stroke: II. Principles for Clinical Trials. [Review]
Stroke. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Lin DJ, Cramer SCS
  • Stroke remains a leading cause of human disability worldwide. Additional approaches beyond acute stroke therapies are needed to improve patient outcomes. Neural repair therapies focus on promoting neural plasticity in surviving tissue rather than modifying the acute injury; examples include behavioral training, drugs, biological therapies, and neural stimulation. This review discusses principles …
  • Neural Repair Therapies After Stroke: I. Therapeutic Advances. [Review]
Stroke. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Lin DJ, Cramer SCS
  • Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Neural repair therapies, distinct from acute stroke therapies, target surviving neural elements to promote plasticity after the acute injury has occurred. Repair therapies encompass a broad and rapidly evolving therapeutic landscape, ranging from behavioral training, drugs, and biological agents to neural stimulation. In this review, we highlight…
  • Subjective Social Status and Outcomes After Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
Stroke. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]Kim DY, Holman EA, Cramer SCS
  • CONCLUSIONS: In patients with predominantly mild stroke, 3-month SSS score may serve as a significant social determinant of health that is associated with long-term functional recovery, a relationship closely linked with psychological distress. SSS scores at 3 months poststroke may identify vulnerable patients, enabling development, validation, and targeted application of interventions that optimize stroke recovery.
