- Early thyroid-stimulating hormone dynamics predict outcomes in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab. [Journal Article]Surg Today. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: Early TSH dynamics and baseline APRI may be useful for exploratory risk stratification in advanced HCC treated with Atez+Bev, although these findings require validation in larger cohorts.

- Long-term survival after multiple arterial coronary artery bypass grafting compared with percutaneous coronary intervention: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: In multivessel coronary artery disease, multiple arterial CABG was associated with significantly lower long-term mortality and MACCE than PCI, supporting its consideration in heart team decision-making.

- Visualizing pelvic splanchnic nerve and hypogastric nerve with magnetic resonance neurography in rectal cancer patients. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: MRN demonstrated a high visualization rate for the pelvic splanchnic nerves but a low rate for the hypogastric nerves. Visualization appeared to be influenced by the visceral fat area and inflammatory responses or edema in surrounding structures.

- Coronary bypass outcomes in chronic limb-threatening ischemia are significantly worse than in patients with non-critical lower extremity arterial disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CLTI predicts poor long-term survival because of comorbidities. In this high-risk population, individualized strategies balancing the extent of coronary revascularization against operative risk may achieve acceptable early outcomes, although the safety of incomplete/functional revascularization requires confirmation in larger cohorts.

- Robot-assisted surgery for rectal cancer with persistent descending mesocolon: analysis of vascular anatomical features and short-term outcomes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: PDM is associated with a higher prevalence of radial IMA branching patterns. Marginal artery defects were observed more frequently among patients with PDM; however, this finding requires cautious interpretation because of the small number of affected cases and potential verification bias. Appropriate identification and management of vascular variations may contribute to acceptable short-term outcomes of robot-assisted surgery in patients with PDM.

- Feasibility of robotic-assisted right colectomy using the "squeezing approach". [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The squeezing approach enables safe and feasible RRC, thereby achieving perioperative outcomes comparable to LRC, even during the initial implementation phase.

- Association between preoperative tracheal deviation and postoperative complications of thyroidectomy for giant multinodular goiter: a single-center retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tracheal deviation >10 mm identified patients at high crude risk for postoperative complications, but an independent association beyond thyroid volume, retrosternal extension, and other clinical factors was not demonstrated. Tracheal deviation should be interpreted together with other CT features of giant multinodular goiter.

- Feasibility of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in extremely- and very-low-birth-weight infants: a single-center retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: LR appears technically feasible with acceptable short-term outcomes and may allow contralateral evaluation and concomitant umbilicoplasty. However, baseline imbalances, the small sample size, and limited follow-up preclude conclusions regarding superiority or equivalence to OR.

- A practical strategy for skeletal chest wall reconstruction after resection of malignant chest wall lesions: a single-institution experience. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Skeletal chest wall reconstruction should be individualized according to defect-specific factors. Polypropylene mesh may be feasible for selected defects when adequate fixation, appropriate tension, and sufficient soft-tissue coverage can be achieved. The flowchart is a practical institutional framework rather than a validated algorithm.

- Clinical factors associated with rescue bronchoscopic sputum suction after minimally invasive esophagectomy: A single-center retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy, greater cumulative smoking exposure was associated with rescue bronchoscopic sputum suction despite comparable preoperative spirometry. Therefore, a high Brinkman index may indicate the need for closer postoperative respiratory surveillance and timely airway clearance.

- Safety and outcomes of hemodilutional autologous transfusion in intermediate- to advanced-level liver resection: a prospective observational study. [Journal Article]Surg Today. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: No clinically overt HAT-related adverse events were observed; however, the efficacy of HAT remains unproven and should be evaluated in future studies.

- Association between Clostridium septicum and Streptococcus gallolyticus bacteremia and colorectal neoplasms. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Consistent with previous reports, we found three typical patterns associated with CRC in patients with CS and SG bacteremia. Because routine colonoscopy was not performed, the true association with CRC could not be determined for these organisms.

- Risk factors for stoma-site incisional hernia after ileostomy reversal: impact of fascial suture material. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: SSIH occurred in approximately 10% of patients after ileostomy reversal. A higher body mass index was consistently associated with SSIH. Fascial suture material may be a clinically relevant component of stoma-site closure; however, its independent effect requires further evaluation.

- Clinical feasibility of direct cholangiography via a PTGBD tube during laparoscopic living-donor hepatectomy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: PTGBD-based direct cholangiography is a feasible adjunct to pure Lap-LLS and it may facilitate precise bile duct division in minimally invasive LDLT.
