  • Comparing Casual Observer Perception of Facial Paralysis Subtypes. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]Randall NR, Fearington FW, … Dey JKL
  • CONCLUSIONS: There are measurable differences in how casual observers perceive faces with different subtypes of facial paralysis. Compared to nonparalyzed faces, both FS and CFP were viewed more negatively; however, CFP was perceived more negatively compared to FS.
  • Early Distraction in Neonates With a Bioresorbable Plate for Bilateral Vocal Fold Immobility. [Case Reports]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]Hyzer JM, Frank ED, … Brigger MTL
  • We describe a novel surgical technique in two neonates with idiopathic bilateral vocal fold immobility (BVFI) using early posterior cricoid distraction with placement of a poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) bioresorbable plate to improve the glottic aperture. Both patients experienced complete resolution of stridor and achieved full oral feeding within 2 weeks, avoiding the need for tracheostomy or gastro…
  • Management of Acquired Velopharyngeal Insufficiency in Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]Kothari DS, Abiri A, … Vukkadala NL
  • CONCLUSIONS: Acquired VPI in adults is highly treatable, with most patients experiencing improvement in speech and swallowing across interventions. However, evidence remains limited by small sample sizes and heterogeneous outcome reporting. Prospective and comparative studies using standardized diagnostic criteria and uniform outcome measures are required to better define optimal treatment selection for this adult population.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography for Quantitative Point-of-Care Ear Imaging. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]Morán MA, Yang Z, … Applegate BEL
  • CONCLUSIONS: OCT otoscopy enables rapid, noninvasive, point-of-care volumetric imaging of the TM and ME. It provides quantitative metrics that improve diagnostic accuracy and allow objective monitoring of disease progression. OCT otoscopy has the potential to become a valuable tool in routine clinical practice.
  • The Effects of Positive Airway Pressure on the Middle Ear: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
    Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]Krivda J, Lewis-Cruz J, … Ruhl DL
  • CONCLUSIONS: PAP increases MEP in a dose-dependent manner, a finding of interest to otologic surgeons. In addition to its role in sleep medicine, PAP therapy may serve as a noninvasive treatment for chronic Eustachian tube dysfunction and TM retraction. Further prospective studies are needed to guide management conclusions for otologic patients utilizing PAP, particularly in the postoperative setting.
  • Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction in Hypermobile Patients. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]Menton SM, Fairweather D, … Rutt ALL
  • CONCLUSIONS: Chronic cough, dysphagia, and elevated MC symptom burden were the strongest independent predictors of ILO across both hEDS and HSD, underscoring the need for routine multidisciplinary laryngeal assessment in this population.
  • Neurotologic and MRI Correlates of Idiopathic Acute Unilateral Audiovestibulopathy. [Journal Article]
Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]Kim KT, Pak A, … Kim JSL
  • CONCLUSIONS: 52% of patients with iAUAV showed positivity on precontrast 3D-FLAIR images, showing a strong association with vestibular deficits in the PC. The observed correlation between MRI and neurotologic findings may facilitate the diagnosis and differentiation of iAUAV and provide insight into its underlying pathophysiology as a frequent cause of acute audiovestibulopathy.
