  • Mechanical Aortic Valve Replacement in Congenital Heart Disease Using the SJM Valve. [Journal Article]
    Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Jan; 74(S 03):e23-e30.Holst T, Cvitkovic T, … Horke ATC
  • CONCLUSIONS: SJM mechanical aortic valve replacement in pediatric and young adult patients with CHD demonstrated favorable midterm survival, low reoperation rates, and acceptable prosthesis-related morbidity. Prosthetic valve dysfunction was frequently transient and rarely required reoperation, supporting SJM valves as a durable option with appropriate prosthesis sizing, anticoagulation, and long-term follow-up.
  • Long-term Performance of Bilateral Internal Thoracic Artery Grafts in Young Adults. [Journal Article]
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]Useini D, Gahl B, … Baraki HTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: BITA revascularization in young adults demonstrates excellent long-term survival, with survival comparable to that of the age- and sex-matched general population during the first 15 years after surgery, along with durable event-free outcomes, supporting its use as a durable revascularization strategy in this population.
  • Minimally Invasive Thymectomy for Myasthenia Gravis: Feasibility and Functional Outcomes. [Journal Article]
    Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]Mwesigwa N, Al-Shamari A, … Smelt JTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Thymectomy can be safely and effectively performed in a general thoracic surgery unit with appropriate specialist input, achieving outcomes comparable to regional referral centers. Apparently, transition to minimally invasive surgery did not compromise safety or efficacy while significantly reducing hospital stay. Future studies should collect MG Composite and MG-ADL scores prospectively as standardized outcome measures.
  • Association Between Postoperative NSAID and Chest Drainage Duration After VATS Pleurodesis. [Clinical Trial]
    Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]Leviel F, Tarpin P, … Abou-Arab OTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative NSAID administration was associated with a reduced incidence of prolonged chest drainage, without evidence of worse early postoperative outcomes. These findings do not support impaired short-term pleural symphysis, although definitive conclusions on long-term pleurodesis efficacy would require prospective studies with extended follow-up.
  • Listening to the Body after Aortic Dissection: A Participatory Sound-Based Co-Creation Project. [Journal Article]
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]Grewal NTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Recovery after AD involves dimensions of bodily awareness, vigilance, and meaning-making not fully reflected in existing clinical frameworks. A participatory sound-based codesign process offered a novel space in which these experiences could be explored, shared, and recognized, suggesting arts-based approaches may capture aspects of survivorship that conventional patient-reported outcomes miss.
  • Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest and Early Outcomes in Open Distal Aortic Repair. [Journal Article]
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]Karaca S, Apaydin AZ, … Posacioglu HTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this single-center, retrospective experience, HCA was used mainly in anatomically challenging distal aortic repairs requiring proximal control. Although the study does not establish equivalence or superiority between perfusion strategies, HCA remains an important surgical adjunct when safe proximal clamping or distal perfusion is not feasible.
  • Early Discharge after Isolated CABG does not Increase 30-Day Readmission. [Journal Article]
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 17. [Online ahead of print]Tekin KA, Topçu AC, … Kırali KTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: In selected low-risk patients with an uncomplicated postoperative course, early discharge after isolated CABG was not independently associated with increased 30-day readmission. Longer CPB time and surgical reexploration were independently associated with readmission.
  • Single-Port Robotic Thoracic Surgery via Intercostal Approach: First Series from Turkey. [Journal Article]
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 06. [Online ahead of print]Tanju S, Özer KB, … Dilege ŞTC
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this small, highly selected initial series performed by an experienced team, intercostal SP robotic thoracic surgery appeared technically feasible across a range of thoracic procedures. Given the limited sample size and retrospective design, these findings should be regarded as hypothesis-generating; larger prospective studies are needed before conclusions regarding safety or comparative outcomes can be drawn.
