- Downscaling to small-volume storage bags supports platelet quality and efficient use of cold-stored platelets for preclinical studies. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Aug 06. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: Storage in tubes markedly impairs the metabolic, structural, and functional quality of CSPs, indicating that this approach is unsuitable. In comparison, mini-bag storage preserves key in vitro parameters, supporting a scalable strategy that maximizes the utilization of CSPs for preclinical evaluation.

- Clinical performance and limitations of a vital sign-based electronic automatic notification system for suspected transfusion reactions: A 6-year experience. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Aug 05. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: Automated vital sign-based surveillance expands hemovigilance coverage but generates considerable alert burden potentially placing the system at risk of reduced reporting performance during prolonged use and periods of healthcare system strain. Continuous system optimization and vital sign specific alert prioritization strategies may be necessary to improve performance of automated hemovigilance systems.

- Transfusion intensity in the ICU: Reasons and triggers. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Aug 01. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: RBC transfusions are administered for distinct, intensity-dependent combinations of reasons and triggers. Transfusion intensity and clinical context are therefore key factors in evaluating transfusion practices. Among bleeding critically ill patients, hypotension and tachycardia are the most frequently cited physiological triggers.

- How do I transition oncology patients from intravenous immunoglobulin to subcutaneous immunoglobulin in an outpatient clinic? [Case Reports]Transfusion. 2026 Jul 31. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: Transitions from IVIG to SCIG have shifted care into the home, reducing outpatient pressure and costs. Long-term sustainability requires improved referral of chronic IVIG users and strategies to support patient engagement.

- Noninvasive hemoglobin monitoring during red blood cell transfusions in very preterm infants. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Jul 29. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: NHb significantly increased during RBC transfusions in anemic preterm infants. We found a moderately positive correlation between NHb and cHb values, but bias and agreement were significantly worse when Hb levels were lower before transfusion. Our results suggest that NHb may be useful to assess its relative changes and not to assess the absolute value of Hb.

- The effect of washing on potassium leakage from red cells from individuals with familial pseudohyperkalemia. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Jul 29. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: All refrigerated RBC leak potassium; however, FP RBC leak potassium and reach equilibrium more rapidly than non-FP. RBC washed on Day 2 still contained a high concentration of potassium and the differential rate of potassium loss between FP and non-FP RBC post-wash was as expected. By Day 14, FP RBC lost most of their intracellular potassium and the rate of potassium loss post-wash was reduced.

- Public awareness and knowledge of blood donation eligibility and deferral criteria: Fostering a culture of donation and advancing equity. [Journal Article]Transfusion. 2026 Jul 23. [Online ahead of print]T
- CONCLUSIONS: Safety concerns were limited, and malaria screening was not perceived as a barrier to donation. These findings support implementation of malaria nucleic acid testing and removal of lifetime deferral policies, highlighting opportunities to expand donor eligibility while maintaining blood safety.
