- Immune signaling networks in graft-versus-host disease: From mechanism to precision therapeutic targeting. [Review]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 24; :102466. [Online ahead of print]TI
- Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and emerging allogeneic T cell therapies offer curative potential for hematologic malignancies, but their benefits remain constrained by graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). Although multiple signaling pathways contribute to GvHD, their effects are determined by dynamic interactions among immune cell subsets, tissue compartments, and dis…

- From aseptic ideal to microbial community balance: The shift in gut microbiota management models for hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients. [Journal Article]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 21; 99:102470. [Online ahead of print]TI
- In the clinical practice of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), we find ourselves in a thought-provoking paradox. On one hand, hematologists strive to create an sterility paradigm for patients through systemic drug baths before admission, prophylactic use of broad-spectrum antibiotics during the conditioning phase, and sterile diets during transplantation. The core goal of these strat…

- Ezetimibe pretreatment attenuates early ischemia-reperfusion injury in a rat model of lung transplantation. [Journal Article]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 17; 99:102464. [Online ahead of print]TI
- Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) after transplantation causes early and late graft dysfunction. Ezetimibe (Eze) is a lipid-reducing agent that has been reported to attenuate oxidative stress and inflammation in non-pulmonary models of ischemia-reperfusion. We examined its effect in a rat lung transplantation model. Lewis rats (n = 8/group) underwent left lung transplantation without pretreatment…

- Pregnancy after renal transplant: Truth or dare? A retrospective analysis from a tertiary care centre in India. [Journal Article]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 16; :102463. [Online ahead of print]TI
- CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancy after kidney transplantation is feasible and frequently successful, though associated with maternal and foetal complications. Meticulous multidisciplinary care and regular monitoring are essential to optimize outcomes and preserve graft function.

- In the context of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT), misclassifying null- and low-expression alleles could result in an HLA mismatch with life-threatening clinical consequences. HLA-C*04:09N was considered one of the most frequent null alleles, but it was recently reclassified as a low-expression allele, HLA-C*04:09L, based on a recent work which described that could be det…

- Emerging stem cell strategies for neurodegenerative diseases. [Review]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 15; 99:102465. [Online ahead of print]TI
- Degenerative diseases continue to impose a substantial global health burden with limited curative options. Neurodegenerative diseases, the principal focus of this review, are among the largest contributors to this burden. Stem cell therapies have emerged as a promising approach, offering the potential to replace lost cells, modulate pathological microenvironments, and restore tissue function thro…

- Suppressive activity and regulatory T-cell phenotypes of cells generated from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells under CD80/CD86 costimulation blockade. [Journal Article]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct 15; 99:102468. [Online ahead of print]TI
- CONCLUSIONS: Cells generated from human PBMCs under CD80/CD86 costimulation blockade exhibited suppressive activity, and the depletion and reconstitution findings were consistent with a contribution of CD3[+] T cells. These cells showed increased frequencies of cells with regulatory T-cell phenotypes and of IL-10-producing T-cell subsets relative to freshly isolated PBMCs. These findings further characterize the immunomodulatory properties of human PBMC-derived cells generated under CD80/CD86 costimulation blockade.

- Upon recognition of alloantigen, T cells rely on an array of costimulatory and coinhibitory receptors to shape their activation and function. The surface receptor CD43 has been reported to provide myriad functions on T cell related to adhesion, trafficking, and intracellular signaling. We investigated the role of CD43 on CD8[+] T cells in vitro and in a fully allogeneic model of acute allograft r…

- CONCLUSIONS: Despite the efforts made to develop this therapy, HSCT represents only a minority of the therapies used in hematology in North Africa. The cost of sophisticated molecular techniques and newer drugs are sometimes limited factors in the region.

- CONCLUSIONS: LXM-MFI cut-offs of <500 and >1000 accurately predict FCXM outcomes for reliable risk stratification. Confirming FCXM testing remains crucial for weak positive LXM (MFI 500-1000) cases to optimize laboratory crossmatch workflows and avoid unnecessary donor exclusion.

- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that heparanase plays a key role in rejection and that specific heparanase inhibition prolongs organ allograft survival. Castanospermine, a transplant immunosuppressant, significantly reduces intragraft heparanase and heparan sulphate.

- ABO blood group associations with corneal and organ failure diagnoses on the Ecuadorian transplant waiting list: A 2017-2022 observational cohort study. [Journal Article]Transpl Immunol. 2026 Oct; 98:102445.TI
- CONCLUSIONS: The ABO blood group appears to have an uncharacterized, organ-specific effect on end-stage organ and corneal failure. In our analysis of transplant candidates, the corneal association survived multiple-testing correction and remained robust in the sensitivity analysis for missing ABO data. Groups A and AB were enriched among patients with type 2 diabetes as a cause of end-stage renal disease, and group A was underrepresented in adherent leukoma and vesicular keratopathy. No association was detected in hepatic disease, and no Rh-related association was significant after correction.
