- Albendazole Treatment of Alveolar Echinococcosis in a Trial Based on a Cross Sectional Ultrasound Study in Kyrgyzstan. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 23. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: In hyperendemic areas of AE, wait and see for small lesions or combined with albendazole therapy is a realistic approach to the management of AE cases. Frequent follow up with imaging every 3-4 months is essential to monitor any disease progression.

- Viral Hepatitis A, B and C in Roraima, Brazilian Amazon: Epidemiological and Serological Profile, 2012-2023. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: Hepatitis B remains the main etiological agent of viral hepatitis in Roraima, predominantly identified in its chronic phase. The increase in hepatitis C and the decline of hepatitis A highlight the impact of expanded diagnosis and vaccination strategies. Strengthening epidemiological surveillance and improving data quality are essential to guide effective public health interventions.

- Integrated Screening for Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases Multimorbidity in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Scoping Review. [Review]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]TM
- Multimorbidity is a growing public health challenge in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where resource-limited and fragmented health systems impede coordinated disease detection and management. Integrated screening offers a promising strategy to improve early detection of communicable and non-communicable diseases. We mapped the current evidence on integrated screening in LMICs, examinin…

- An Equity Analysis of the Prevalence, Costs and Coping Mechanisms of Informal Payments in the Utilisation of Healthcare Services in Nigeria. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: Informal payments are widespread in Nigeria's healthcare system, contributing to increased costs and inequities in access to healthcare services. This underscores the urgent need for systemic reforms to combat corruption in healthcare facilities. Eliminating informal payments is essential for improving equity and ensuring that the health system can deliver services at a low cost. Transparent service pricing, regular audits and robust oversight mechanisms are recommended to detect and prevent informal payments.

- Routine TB Surveillance as a Diagnostic Tool: Subnational Care Cascade Gaps in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 17. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: Routine TB surveillance revealed substantial subnational variation, particularly in diagnostic and notification indicators, while treatment enrolment among notified cases was high. Early cascade differences may reflect both underlying TB burden and health-system performance. District-level cascade analysis can inform targeted TB programme planning.

- Patterns of Drug Resistance, Drug Resistance Conferring Mutations and Genomic DNA Methylation Revealed in Mycobacterium tuberculosis From South Africa. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]TM
- Tuberculosis remains a major public health threat globally, with drug-resistant strains undermining treatment efficacy. We analyzed 126 Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) isolates with diverse drug resistance spectra and selected 35 for whole genome sequencing (WGS) using Illumina NextSeq, SMRT PacBio Onso and SMRT PacBio Revio sequencing platforms. The study aimed to characterize drug …

- Renal and Functional Vulnerability in Hansen Disease: A Framework for Chronic Infectious Disability in Endemic Settings. [Review]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 15. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence does not prove a causal renal-muscle relationship, but supports a hypothesised renal-functional vulnerability interface. Integrated renal and functional assessment may help identify high-risk patients and guide prospective cohorts.

- Changes in Tuberculosis Incidence and Mortality Following the End TB Strategy and the COVID-19 Pandemic in Brazil: An Interrupted Time-Series Analysis. [Journal Article]Trop Med Int Health. 2026 Sep 11. [Online ahead of print]TM
- CONCLUSIONS: Changes in TB incidence and mortality were temporally associated with the selected interruption points, including an increase in incidence between 2015 and 2020 and a marked decline following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, causal attribution is limited by the ecological design, absence of a control group and the small number of observations between intervention points and after 2020.

- Studies reporting deletions of the pfhrp2 and pfhrp3 genes in P. falciparum populations in various malaria-endemic countries, including countries bordering Brazil, are increasing. Individuals infected with P. falciparum carrying deletions of the pfhrp2/3 genes may yield false-negative results in Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) based on the detection of these antigens. A total of 342 samples from sy…

- Urban Persistence of Triatoma infestans: Post-Spraying Reinfestation Dynamics and Evaluation of Alternative Surveillance Tools. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that residual spraying can reduce T. infestans infestation in urban settings for at least 1 year, and that active manual searches show a strong operational performance for detecting low-density residual infestations during urban surveillance compared to chemically baited sensors.
