- Ticagrelor pretreatment and angiographic no-reflow in STEMI: a multicentre observational study. [Journal Article]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 30; :107715. [Online ahead of print]VP
- CONCLUSIONS: Ticagrelor pretreatment was associated with lower angiographic no-reflow after propensity weighting. The adjusted mortality and exploratory class-risk findings did not reach statistical significance. Residual confounding and uncertain covariate timing limit causal interpretation, and prospective validation is required.

- Emerging roles of metabolite-derived posttranslational modifications in vascular smooth muscle cell phenotypic state and fate. [Review]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 30; :107717. [Online ahead of print]VP
- The interaction between metabolic reprogramming and key signaling pathways is required for vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) phenotypic transitions and the development of disease. In response to pathological stimuli, VSMCs experience metabolic reprogramming to meet their increased energy demands and biomass synthesis. Metabolite-derived post translational modifications (PTMs) act as a key play…

- Aging in cardio-oncology: Pathophysiology, clinical implications and future directions. [Review]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 29; :107716. [Online ahead of print]VP
- Population aging is changing the needs of patients seen in cardio-oncology. Older adults with cancer often have cardiovascular disease, multimorbidity, and reduced physiological reserve, which can complicate treatment and recovery. Patients of the same chronological age may differ considerably in cardiovascular health, functional capacity, and treatment tolerance. Frailty and geriatric assessment…

- Epigenetic regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell plasticity in vascular injury, repair, and aging. [Review]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 22; 165:107712. [Online ahead of print]VP
- Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) exhibit a remarkable phenotypic spectrum in response to injury, inflammation, metabolic stress, and aging through state changes encoded in chromatin. This review examines how DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation, histone modifiers, chromatin readers, adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent chromatin remodelers, three-dimensional genome organization, and non-c…

- Systemic OPA1 overexpression reshapes cardiovascular metabolism and cardiac physiology during high-fat diet feeding. [Journal Article]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 21; 165:107713. [Online ahead of print]VP
- CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, these findings indicate that systemic OPA1 overexpression was associated with myocardial lipid accumulation and early fibrotic remodeling during HFD feeding, despite preserved systolic function. In vitro, OPA1 overexpression increased cardiomyocyte respiratory capacity under lipid-rich conditions. These data identify a context-dependent effect of OPA1 in which enhanced respiratory capacity may become maladaptive when lipid supply exceeds coordinated oxidative and storage capacity.

- Integrative genetic analyses for drug repurposing identify emodin as a candidate modulator of STAT3 signaling in abdominal aortic aneurysm. [Journal Article]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 20; 165:107711. [Online ahead of print]VP
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening vascular disease lacking effective pharmacological therapies. To identify potential therapeutic targets and candidate compounds, we performed integrative genetic analyses for drug repurposing by combining Mendelian randomization (MR), summary-data-based Mendelian randomization (SMR), and Bayesian colocalization. This framework prioritized mult…

- Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are essential for the normal function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urogenital systems, and SMC dysfunction contributes to a wide range of genetic and acquired diseases. CRISPR-based genome editing provides new approaches for studying SMC biology and developing therapies for smooth muscle disorders. In particular, base editing and prime editi…

- Beyond catecholamine escalation: Receptor desensitization and endogenous vasopressor failure, and extracorporeal circuit biocompatibility after cardiopulmonary bypass-A narrative review. [Review]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Sep 25; 165:107707. [Online ahead of print]VP
- CONCLUSIONS: Vasoplegia after CPB may represent a complex endocrine and receptor-mediated disorder rather than a purely vasodilatory state. The interaction between endogenous vasopressor depletion, receptor dysfunction, and altered intracellular signaling may explain the development of catecholamine-refractory shock after cardiac surgery. A better understanding of these mechanisms could support more individualized and physiologically guided vasopressor strategies aimed at preventing receptor exhaustion and improving hemodynamic management in cardiac surgical patients.

- CONCLUSIONS: In mouse models of HLI, AMPK activation improved limb perfusion, reduced limb loss, and increased capillary density and p-eNOS levels, whereas inhibition had opposing effects. These findings support AMPK as a therapeutic target for limb ischemia.

- Altered portal venous hemodynamics are associated with the development of portosystemic collateralization and structural remodeling of the extrahepatic portal vasculature; however, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Existing partial portal vein ligation models rely on fixed-diameter spacers or needle-based ligation to achieve predefined, non-adjustabl…

- Hypertensive cardiac remodeling (HCR) encompasses maladaptive structural and functional changes-including cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, myocardial fibrosis, and ventricular dysfunction-that develop in response to chronic pressure overload. - CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that TUG-891 mitigates vascular hyperplasia and remodeling by activating FFAR4 in PVAT, reducing lipolysis and suppressing aberrant adipocyte browning. Targeting PVAT FFAR4 signaling may represent a promising therapeutic strategy for vascular diseases.

- Aquaporins (AQPs) are transmembrane proteins that primarily transport water, but certain isoforms also facilitate the diffusion of small neutral signaling molecules, such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO). However, whether AQPs mediate vascular H2O2 and NO transport remains poorly understood. We investigated whether AQPs facilitate the transport of these endothelium-derived relaxi…

- Multi-omics and experimental validation reveal the proliferative mechanism of ACSL4 in pulmonary hypertension and identify potential FDA-approved drugs via in silico screening. [Journal Article]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Sep; 164:107694.VP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study uncovers a novel mechanism by which ACSL4 fuels PASMC growth in PH through reshaping fatty acid metabolism and targeting the VGLL4/YAP signaling axis. Although the role of ACSL4 in pulmonary hypertension has been previously reported, its function via the VGLL4/YAP axis is a novel finding. These findings highlight a key pathway in PH progression and point to ACSL4 as a possible target for new treatments.
