  • Central Nervous System Diseases in Cattle, Small Ruminants, and South American Camelids: A Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 29; :106905. [Online ahead of print]Schoiswohl J, Sajovitz-Grohmann F, … Krametter-Froetscher RVJ
  • Neurological disorders in ruminants and South American Camelids (SACs) are rare, yet they constitute a clinically significant group owing to the complexity of their diagnosis and management. This retrospective study evaluated the prevalence, aetiologies, and clinical characteristics of central nervous system (CNS) diseases in cattle, small ruminants, and SACs admitted to the University Clinic for…
  • Staphylococcal Dissemination During the Milking Procedure in Sheep Flocks. [Journal Article]
Vet J. 2026 Sep 26; :106896. [Online ahead of print]Liagka DV, Fthenakis GC, … Vasileiou NGCVJ
  • The general objective of this work was the evaluation of the potential for dissemination of staphylococci within the milking system during the actual milking procedure in dairy sheep flocks. Specific objectives of the study were i) the evaluation of bacterial recovery from samples from ewes (teat duct material, milk) collected before and after milking and ii) the description of sources of potenti…
  • Thyroid hormones and redox balance: a review of their correlation under stress conditions in small ruminants. [Review]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 25; :106899. [Online ahead of print]Pasciu V, Baralla E, … Berlinguer FVJ
  • Thyroid hormones and oxidative stress are intrinsically linked, with thyroid dysfunctions often triggering redox imbalances. Beyond clinical pathology, it is crucial to investigate how environmental and physiological stressors influence thyroid function and oxidative status in livestock. Ruminants are frequently exposed to diverse stressors that compromise their health, welfare, and overall farm …
  • Seroprevalence and associated factors of foot-and-mouth disease virus antibodies in cattle in Africa and Asia: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]
Vet J. 2026 Sep 25; :106897. [Online ahead of print]Li LM, Zhao FF, … Gao MCVJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: FMDV antibody seroprevalence was substantial among cattle populations across Asia and Africa, with considerable regional variation and higher levels of serological exposure observed in Africa. Higher FMDV antibody seroprevalence was observed among unvaccinated herds, whereas serotype O exhibited the highest pooled FMDV antibody seroprevalence among the serotypes evaluated. These findings highlight the importance of sustained serological surveillance, region-specific vaccination strategies, appropriate vaccine matching, and strengthened biosecurity measures to support evidence-based FMD prevention and control.
  • Retrospective investigation of equine parvovirus-hepatitis in Italy. [Journal Article]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 23; 320:106889. [Online ahead of print]Diakoudi G, Lanave G, … Elia GVJ
  • Equine parvovirus-hepatitis (EqPV-H) has recently been identified as the etiological agent of Theiler's disease, a major cause of acute hepatitis and liver failure in horses. While iatrogenic transmission of EqPV-H is well-documented, the natural horizontal transmission of the virus remains poorly understood. This study provides the first comprehensive epidemiological investigation and molecular …
  • Finnish producer perceptions of medication safety in sows: A qualitative study. [Journal Article]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 22; 320:106898. [Online ahead of print]Ahlqvist K, Heinonen M, … Holmström ARVJ
  • Medication is essential for maintaining health and promoting welfare in production animals. A complex medication management and use process (MMU process) in herds may contribute to medication safety risks, which can lead to errors in medication use. However, these issues are largely unstudied. This study aimed to identify risks and defenses related to the sow MMU process, including medication ins…
  • Detection and Genomic Characterization of an Emerging Bovine Coronavirus in Southwest China. [Journal Article]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 22; :106893. [Online ahead of print]Ren Y, Banma W, … Yue HVJ
  • Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) poses significant economic threats to the cattle industry, yet molecular epidemiological data from Southwest China remain scarce. In this study, we investigated the molecular epidemiology, genomic features, and antigenic characteristics of BCoV circulating in this region. Molecular detection showed that BCoV was frequently detected among clinically affected cattle, with …
  • Ultrasonographic detection of joint lesions in canine leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum. [Journal Article]
    Vet J. 2026 Sep 19; 320:106887. [Online ahead of print]Oliveira PV, Muramoto C, … Barrouin-Melo SMVJ
  • Canine leishmaniasis (CanL), caused by Leishmania infantum, is a multisystemic disease with substantial musculoskeletal involvement. We aimed to assess the usefulness of USG in diagnosing joint abnormalities in dogs with CanL using a clinical approach. Forty-three L. infantum PCR-positive dogs underwent comparative orthopedic physical examination and joint USG; 20 (20/43) also underwent radiograp…
