- Biological, genomic, and biogeographic characterization of two lytic phages infecting Vibrio natriegens. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the initial description and phylogenetic analysis of newly isolated phages infecting V. natriegens. These findings expand the currently limited repertoire of culturable phages of V. natriegens and support the concept that gene modules may be shared among diverse phages within a gene-sharing network, contributing to the understanding of marine viral diversity.

- Epidemiology and molecular evolution of Paslahepevirus balayani (Hepatitis E Virus) in fur-bearing animals in Hebei Province, China. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study systematically investigated HEV prevalence in fur-bearing animals and, for the first time, obtained the complete genome sequence of an HEV-4 isolate from mink in Hebei Province. This indicates that there may be a new subtype of HEV-4 in raccoon dogs, which provides the latest data of HEV infection and circulation in fur animals in Hebei Province and supports the formulation of effective public health policies.

- Efficacy and safety of Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) or Entecavir (ETV) combined with interferon for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: TDF-based combination regimens were associated with superior functional cure potential compared with ETV-based alternatives, suggesting a potential efficacy hierarchy that prior pooled analyses obscured. TDF may represent a potential backbone option for patients seeking HBsAg loss, with ETV combinations remaining an appropriate alternative, particularly for those with TDF contraindications or baseline renal impairment or osteopenia. However, these findings are descriptive rather than prescriptive, derive specifically from predominantly HBeAg-positive Asian populations, and should not be generalized to other demographic or disease-stage groups without further validation. The moderate-to-low certainty of evidence, substantial methodological limitations, lack of blinded trials, and insufficient safety data to exclude differential renal or bone toxicity between backbones preclude definitive treatment recommendations. Confirmation in double-blind trials is needed.

- lncRNA ZNF667-AS1 suppresses hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating miR-210-3p to upregulate CPEB2. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: LncRNA ZNF667-AS1 is downregulated in HBV-related HCC and exerts in vitro tumor‑suppressive effects by targeting miR-210-3p to upregulate CPEB2 expression, thus providing a potential auxiliary biomarker for HBV-related HCC diagnosis and a novel regulatory axis for understanding disease pathogenesis.

- Diversity of insect-specific viruses in Culex mosquitoes from Papua New Guinea. [Journal Article]
- Insect-specific viruses (ISVs) are integral components of mosquito viromes, influencing virus evolution, vector competence, and arbovirus ecology. Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a region of exceptional biodiversity, yet ISVs in local mosquito populations remain poorly characterized. Here, we present the first comprehensive metagenomic survey of ISVs in Culex mosquitoes collected across five provinces …

- Herpesviruses show consistency in their nuclear egress-associated induction of lamina-depleted areas as measured in an autofluorescent reporter cell model. [Journal Article]
- Human herpesvirus infections span a wide variety of pathogenic outcomes, with individual representatives comprising a huge clinical relevance on human health. Translational research efforts are directed towards the improvement of broadly applicable preventive measures and detailed understanding of viral pathogenesis. Here, we studied rate-limiting steps in viral replication that show high mechani…

- Merkel cell polyomavirus DNA in CSF of paediatric patients with suspected meningitis or encephalitis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: MCPyV DNA was detected exclusively in HIV-positive children and was associated with inflammatory CSF abnormalities. These findings suggest a possible association between MCPyV detection, immunosuppression, and CNS inflammation but do not establish causality. Larger multicenter studies are required.

- Efficacy of direct-acting antiviral regimens for acute HCV infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Dual-DAA therapy was associated with a high pooled SVR12 in acute and recently acquired HCV, with cure differing by treatment duration. These findings support early treatment and favour a course of at least eight weeks. Given the predominantly single-arm evidence and the partial confounding of regimen with duration, randomised duration-comparison trials are needed to confirm the optimal short-course strategy.

- Cell culture medium influences RSV G protein glycosylation and recognition by monoclonal antibodies. [Journal Article]
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) glycoprotein G is heavily glycosylated and of variable size following virus growth in transformed cell lines or primary cells. However, it is unknown if the cell culture medium can influence the patterns of glycosylation. Therefore, we tested whether the choice of culture medium can affect the glycosylation of RSV G protein, viral infectivity and antibody recogni…

- Regulatory roles of G-quadruplexes and G-quadruplex-binding proteins across the enhancer and promoter of the HBV genome. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals that two G4 structures within the HBV CP/EN regulatory region function as structural platforms for host factor recruitment and play distinct roles in regulating viral gene expression. In particular, the 1732 G4 facilitates HNF4A-dependent activation of CP/EN activity, thereby supporting efficient viral protein production, whereas CNBP promotes HBV expression through a CP/EN-independent mechanism.

- Genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Tunisia during the omicron era: insights from the national influenza & other respiratory viruses laboratory. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Rapid Omicron sublineage turnover and co-detections with other respiratory viruses, including influenza, were captured by genomic monitoring integrated into Tunisia's influenza-based sentinel network, which achieved broad sequencing coverage and overall near-proportional sampling despite subnational heterogeneity. This integrated, multi-pathogen approach provides a scalable model for sustained genomic surveillance and future respiratory pandemic preparedness in the region.

- Revisiting HPV integration landscapes using telomere-to-telomere human genome reference closes the gaps in HPV integration sites search. [Journal Article]
- Accurate characterization of human papillomavirus (HPV) integration into the host genome is essential for understanding HPV-driven carcinogenesis. However, most previous integration studies relied on incomplete human reference genomes, potentially obscuring integration events occurring within highly repetitive genomic regions. Here, we reassessed HPV integration landscapes using the first complet…

- Incidence, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and pharmacological management of the 2026 Andes virus outbreak. [Review]
- Hantavirus is considered as a fatal zoonotic pathogen that can be commonly transmitted from rodents to humans. However, the Andes virus (ANDV), a type of New World hantavirus, can also be transmitted from human to human. It is the cause of the 2026 hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship. Hantavirus can rapidly progress to a severe respiratory distress, known as hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (…
