- Pulmonary artery thromboembolism and its recurrence inpenetrating injuries of the lower extremities (analysis of clinical cases). [Case Reports]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1997-2002.WL
- Two clinical cases of the onset and recurrence of pulmonary embolism (PE) in military personnel with penetrating wounds of the lower extremities are presented. Both patients were taking a prophylactic dose of anticoagulants. In the first case, high-risk PE developed with recurrent hypertension and few symptoms, which contributed to late diagnosis and sudden death. In the second case, PE recurred …

- Diagnosis and treatment of Crohn's disease with strong activity and rapid progression in the general surgery department. [Case Reports]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1989-1996.WL
- Female patient was urgently admitted to the surgical department. The patient underwent a general clinical examination, abdominal and chest radiography, endoscopy, CT of the abdominal organs, consultations with related specialists. To establish a definitive diagnosis and determine the course of treatment, a laparotomy was performed, involving debridement and drainage of the abdominal cavity. As th…

- Effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of selected diseases of the nervous system. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1982-1988.WL
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has attracted increasing interest as a potential supportive intervention in neurological disorders. By increasing the amount of oxygen dissolved in blood plasma, HBOT enhances oxygen delivery to hypoxic tissues and may influence mechanisms involved in neuroplasticity, inflammation, and tissue repair. Experimental and clinical studies suggest that HBOT may support …

- Investigating the association between genetic factors and the mechanisms underlying post-traumatic stress disorder development. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1973-1981.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: The study of polymorphisms in genes associated with the regulation of metabolic changes not only deepens our understanding of the pathogenesis of the disorder but also opens up new avenues for research aimed at identifying risk biomarkers and clarifying the mechanisms of stress reactivity. Further work in this area has the potential to lay the foundations for more accurate predictive models and the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

- Current aspects of the etiopathogenesis of antiphospholipid syndrome and its clinical manifestations. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1960-1972.WL
- Antiphospholipid syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by the persistent presence of antiphospholipid antibodies and a predisposition to arterial, venous, and microvascular thrombotic manifestations. In this article, the authors analyzed the available literature sources in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases for the period from 2019 to 2026, focusin…

- Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: Current concepts in epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1952-1959.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: Management strategies are examined across disease stages, from conservative measures and pharmacologic interventions to surgical resection and reconstruction. Emerging therapies, including teriparatide, hyperbaric oxygen, platelet-rich preparations, and cryosurgery, show promise as adjunctive treatments. Prevention remains paramount, emphasizing pre-treatment dental evaluation, patient education, and interprofessional collaboration.

- Social exclusion, social isolation, and mental health: Understanding the Ukrainian context. [Journal Article]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1940-1951.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: Being one of determinants of mental health, social exclusion has become increasingly widespread in Ukraine, and the ongoing war has given rise to new groups that are currently most susceptible to social exclusion. During narrative interviews aimed at uncovering the experiences of Ukrainians who may fall into these groups, it was found that participants do not consider themselves socially excluded, although everyone talks about voluntary or involuntary social isolation that negatively affects or may affect their mental health and well-being. The narratives illustrate not only experiences of social isolation, but also the ways in which participants propose to address the unmet needs of individuals suffering from social isolation.

- Psychophysiological and medical indicators in determining police officers' professional suitability. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1930-1939.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: The introduction of modern assessment technologies reduces the risks of professional maladaptation and supports the development of high-quality human resource potential within law enforcement agencies. A systemic approach to evaluating psychophysiological indicators is therefore essential for improving the overall efficiency and safety of police service.

- CONCLUSIONS: Conclussion: The destructive changes in the organization of organelles, the cytoplasmic membrane of epithelial cells, and the basement membrane indicate disturbances in intracellular bioenergetics, the protein-synthesizing apparatus, and the transcellular transport of substances through the capillary network, leading to changes in the properties of the capillaries themselves.

- Gender-specific determinants of the cardiorespiratory system and energy supply for working capacity in sport dance athletes. [Journal Article]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(8):1865-1872.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: In most dancers, in F SEP, there was found an increase in aerobic metabolism in partners and glycolytic capacity in female partners. The reactive properties of the cardiorespiratory system are reflected in the efficiency of oxygen consumption per unit of pulmonary ventilation (EqO2) and the stability of the respiratory compensation response to metabolic acidosis.
