| | Abstract | Despite successful orthodontic-orthopedic treatments, some patients present with lower face vertical excess, that causes labial incompetence. In order to treat that excess, and to restore normal balance between upper and lower face, the authors propose that functional genioplasty be carried out. Clinical and cephalometric criteria of vertical excess are describe, as well as the surgical technique and post-operative care.
