Abstract	Personally trained by Burt Brent, the author reports her experience based on 143 total reconstructions of the external ear, 92 of which were performed to correct microtia. The principles of the technique and the refinements introduced by Burt Brent are described. After analysing the various clinical features of microtia, the author presents the results which demonstrate the considerable contribution of this technique to total reconstruction of the external ear.
