AbstractDevelopmental supervision is gaining increasing recognition in nursing as a form of clinical supervision that will promote professional growth and ultimately lead to improved patient care. Benner's (1984) model of career development is used as a framework in which to examine appropriate forms of supervision for each developmental stage. Directive, collaborative and non-directive supervision are applied to each of these developmental levels.
