AbstractBACKGROUND: Moxifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in the management of community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and acute bacterial sinusitis.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article was to provide a synthesis and critical appraisal of economic evaluations of the management of respiratory tract infections with moxifloxacin.
METHODS: Studies were included if they assessed the costs and consequences of moxifloxacin as compared with an alternative antimicrobial in the management of community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis or acute bacterial sinusitis.
RESULTS/
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis or acute bacterial sinusitis with moxifloxacin is equally or more effective and less expensive than treatment with other antimicrobials.
