Abstract	Many facilities are increasing the use of intravenous (IV) medications in an effort to care for patients with more complex health care needs. The number of IV medications also is increasing, and these products are helping keep patients in nursing facilities from being hospitalized. While some pharmacists have been hesitant to expand their expertise to include IV medications, it is essential that they do so to ensure the safe and cost-effective use of these therapies.
