AbstractSignificantly increased levels of ampicillin were recorded in the serum of nine normal dwarf goats following injection of ampicillin trihydrate (Penbritin, 20 mg per kg of body weight) into the lateral cervical muscles compared with injection into the gluteal region (semimembranosus muscle). The differences observed serve to emphasize the fact that more attention should be paid to the effect of the site of intramuscular injection on the biological availability of the drug, with particular reference to studies on clinical effectiveness.
