- Proteomic insights into the mechanism of atmospheric cold plasma in reducing muscle protein degradation in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) during cold storage. [Journal Article]Food Chem. 2026 Oct 11; 532(Pt 2):151556. [Online ahead of print]FC
- This study investigated the effectiveness of atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) treatments at different voltages (10-50 kV) in mitigating muscle protein degradation and maintaining the quality of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) during refrigerated storage at 4 °C. Shrimp samples were treated with ACP at various voltages, and physicochemical indices, including trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-sol…

- A Case of Neurohistoplasmosis Successfully Treated With Single High-Dose Liposomal Amphotericin B. [Case Reports]
- Disseminated histoplasmosis is a leading AIDS-related opportunistic mycosis and carries high mortality risk. A simplified induction strategy using single high-dose of liposomal amphotericin B (L-AmB) has shown promise for disseminated disease, but persons with central nervous system (CNS) involvement were excluded from the clinical trial. We describe a 35-year-old man with advanced HIV disease (C…

- OPTN-TRIP6-mediated F-actin mechanical support regulates phagophore closure to govern craniofacial skeletal development. [Journal Article]Exp Cell Res. 2026 Oct 13; :115195. [Online ahead of print]EC
- The development of craniofacial bones is highly dependent on the intramembranous ossification process driven by orofacial mesenchymal stem cells (OMSCs). Optineurin (OPTN), a traditional mitophagy receptor, promotes OMSC matrix mineralization by mediating the extracellular release of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) through the initiation of mitophagy via liquid-liquid phase separation. However,…

- Charting the future: A multi-setting medical chart study of advance care planning in Parkinson's disease and atypical Parkinsonism. [Journal Article]J Parkinsons Dis. 2026 Oct 13; :1877718X261495736. [Online ahead of print]JP
- BackgroundAdvance Care Planning (ACP) enables people with progressive diseases to document and communicate future treatment preferences. For Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonism (AP), ACP is particularly important because of disease complexity, symptom burden, the progressive nature of the disease, and cognitive decline, yet its implementation across care settings remains unclear.Me…

- Association Between Advance Care Planning and Place of Death: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Worldviews Evid Based Nurs. 2026 Oct; 23(5):e70179.WE
- CONCLUSIONS: ACP is associated with place of death, but its impact appears to depend on how it is implemented. These findings suggest that ACP should be approached as a communication-centered process rather than solely as documentation. Clinicians should prioritize facilitated discussions that clarify patient values and preferences, and integrate them into care planning. Future implementation efforts should focus on strengthening communication processes and care coordination to support goal-concordant end-of-life care, particularly in enabling home-based death.

- Enhancing acetaminophen solubility and stability using an aqueous betaine chloride-acetic acid natural deep eutectic solvent: experimental and mechanistic insights. [Journal Article]
- Improving the aqueous solubility of moderately soluble drugs using safe and sustainable solvent systems remains an important challenge in pharmaceutical formulation. In this study, a series of aqueous natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were systematically designed and evaluated to enhance the solubility, stability, and biocompatibility of acetaminophen (ACP). The effects of hydrogen bond don…

- Migration as a transformative force shaping beliefs about and readiness for advance care planning among Thai immigrants in Australia: A qualitative exploration. [Journal Article]Palliat Support Care. 2026 Oct 13; 24:e264.PS
- CONCLUSIONS: Migration disrupts traditional Thai norms surrounding family roles, communication, and decision-making, thereby reshaping how participants understand and approach readiness for ACP. Thai immigrants reinterpret family roles, faith, and autonomy within a new cultural context, emphasizing the need for culturally responsive ACP approaches that respect family influence, indirect communication, and the role of community mediators.

- Opportunistic Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in the Eye Clinic: Validation of a Retinal Deep Learning-Based 10-Year Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Estimator. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Deep learning analysis of routine retinal photographs provides cardiovascular risk stratification comparable to established clinical equations, offering a valid, noninvasive solution for opportunistic screening even when missing laboratory data precludes the standard risk calculators. These findings support the potential for opportunistic systemic risk assessment within the eye clinic, enhancing the role of the ophthalmologist in primary prevention.

- Safety and Efficacy of the Ahmed ClearPath versus Ahmed ClearPath Small Tube at Six Months: A Retrospective Comparative Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary findings suggest that the ACP-ST may achieve IOP and medication reductions comparable to the ACP through 6 months. No postoperative hypotony was observed in the ACP-ST cohort despite the absence of tube ligation. However, given the sample size and differences in surgical technique, larger prospective controlled studies are needed to determine whether the smaller lumen independently contributes to flow control.

- Solvent-Controlled Reaction Productivity and Mechanistic Pathways in the Multicomponent Synthesis of 2‑Amino-3-cyano‑4H‑pyrans. [Journal Article]
- In this work, we present a detailed mechanistic and solvent-effect study of the multicomponent synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-pyran (ACP) derivatives catalyzed by a water-soluble imidazolium-functionalized polymer (PEI.IL)(?)a synthetic enzyme (synzyme). Rather than focusing solely on synthetic scope, this study dissects how solvent properties and reaction equilibria govern reaction productivity…

- Long COVID in Primary Care: A Practical Approach to Evaluation and Management. [Review]
- Long COVID is a multi-system, heterogeneous condition that manifests as new or worsened symptoms lasting at least 3 months following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, often despite normal results on routine diagnostic testing. Common manifestations include fatigue, post-exertional malaise, cognitive impairment, and orthostatic intolerance. Primary care clinicians are uniquely positioned to identify and…

- Apc-deficient pituitary stem cells drive adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma through senescence-associated inflammation. [Journal Article]
- Adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas (aCPs) are complex intracranial neoplasms that arise in the sellar and suprasellar region of the brain, affecting the endocrine and nervous systems, causing severe sequelae. Although most of aCPs are driven by somatic mutations in β-catenin (CTNNB1), some cases remain genetically unresolved. Here, we show that disruption of the Wnt-antagonist and tumour suppres…
