- Measuring Co-Coverage in Global Health and Nutrition Interventions: A Scoping Review of Analytical Approaches. [Review]Adv Nutr. 2026 Sep 30; :100742. [Online ahead of print]AN
- Multi-sectoral nutrition (MSN) approaches coordinate interventions across sectors such as health, agriculture, education, and social protection to improve nutrition outcomes, and have gained prominence in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Measuring co-coverage - the clustering of multiple interventions at the individual and household level - remains uncommon yet offers a viable method for…

- Effect of Enhanced Nutrition and Infection Management Intervention Packages on Antenatal Quality of Care Indicators in Rural Amhara, Ethiopia. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 Jul 29.M
- CONCLUSIONS: Combination of enhanced nutrition and infection management interventions had the largest effect on the number of ANC contacts and ANC QoC score. Bolstering nutrition and infection management services during pregnancy could encourage additional ANC contacts, providing an opportunity to provide targeted care.

- Determinants of maternal health service utilisation among refugee women in Krisan and Ampain camps, Ghana: a cross-sectional analysis. [Journal Article]Front Glob Womens Health. 2026; 7:1807016.FG
- CONCLUSIONS: Maternal healthcare utilization among refugee women in Ghana is influenced by complex interactions between social support, access-related factors, and individual characteristics. Interventions that strengthen social networks, improve transport and service accessibility, and address contextual barriers within refugee camps are critical to improving maternal health outcomes.

- Marburg virus disease outbreak and response in South Ethiopia Region. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case series demonstrates that recovery from confirmed MVD is achievable with early diagnosis, comprehensive supportive care, and antiviral therapy, even in the presence of severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Dynamic monitoring of liver enzymes and viral clearance is essential. These findings underscore the potential for favorable outcomes with early diagnosis and antiviral treatment even in resource-limited settings.

- Neutrophil recovery characteristics in patients with severe antithyroid drug-induced agranulocytosis: A 12-year retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In most severe TIA patients, neutrophil recovery exhibited a biphasic pattern, with ANC recovering rapidly after prolonged severe agranulocytosis. Close monitoring is essential to avoid G-CSF overstimulation, particularly in patients with prolonged severe agranulocytosis.

- A Case of Duffy-Null-Associated Neutropenia in a Patient With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. [Journal Article]
- Duffy-null-associated neutrophil count (DANC) refers to a below-normal absolute neutrophil count (ANC < 1.5 × 10[3]/L), present most commonly in African American individuals. Neutropenia is a result of a lack of Fya and Fyb antigens on red blood cells. These patients do not have an increased risk of infection and may have an ANC < 1.5 × 10[3]/L at baseline. This unique case presents Duffy-null-as…

- Case Report: Life-threatening neutropenia with absolute neutrophil count of zero after low-dose regional arterial infusion chemotherapy to lung in a patient with advanced triple-negative breast cancer after multiple lines of treatment. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores that locoregional chemotherapy, even at reduced doses, can cause profound myelosuppression in extensively pre-treated patients. It also illustrates that a pre-treatment ANC within the normal range may not reliably reflect bone marrow reserve in this population. Prompt, intensive supportive care-including prophylactic antibiotics, G-CSF, and protective isolation-is essential. In carefully selected patients during early hematologic recovery, under strict infection prevention measures and multidisciplinary evaluation, invasive procedures such as thoracentesis may be feasible.

- Early Leukocyte Profiles in Preterm Infants Born to Mothers with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: An Exploratory Matched Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Maternal systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with preterm birth, but whether maternal disease activity influences early neonatal hematologic profiles beyond developmental immaturity remains unclear. We compared hematologic parameters between SLE-exposed preterm infants and maturity-matched controls and explored findings according to maternal SLE flare during pr…

- Laboratory Markers Associated with Deep Neck Infection in Emergency Department Patients with Throat or Neck Symptoms. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Deep neck infection (DNI) can be difficult to distinguish from localized upper aerodigestive disease during emergency department (ED) evaluation. We assessed routinely available laboratory markers in adults presenting with throat or neck symptoms and examined whether the associations were reproduced in an imaging-defined subgroup. Methods: This single-center retrospective c…

- A qualitative study to explore women's perceptions of pregnancy and antenatal care in Chizenga village, Chikwawa, Malawi. [Journal Article]
- National survey data indicate that only around one quarter of women in Malawi attend their first antenatal care (ANC) visit during the first trimester. This study explores women's perceptions of ANC in Chizenga village, Chikwawa, a rural setting with high maternal mortality and low ANC uptake. Using an interpretivist qualitative design, 14 pregnant women aged 18-44 years were recruited through pu…

- Antenatal Care Utilization, Maternal Satisfaction, and Access Barriers in Mogadishu, Somalia: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite promising early ANC initiation, continuous engagement in Mogadishu is associated with profound maternal dissatisfaction, systemic inequities, and a challenging security environment; given the cross-sectional, convenience-sample design, these associations should be interpreted cautiously. Interventions extending beyond infrastructure, including strengthened respectful maternity care, stricter facility governance, and community-based midwifery, may help sustain ANC engagement in this fragile setting.

- An interpretable machine learning model integrating early immune biomarkers for predicting outcomes after spinal cord injury. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Acute SCI is associated with marked early neutrophil-dominant systemic inflammation, and elevated ANC was consistently associated with unfavorable neurological status at 12 months. A parsimonious model integrating ISS, AIS grade A, cervical cord involvement, and ANC provided additional prognostic information beyond baseline neurological assessment and may facilitate early individualized risk stratification using readily available clinical parameters.

- Insights from strengthening perinatal hepatitis b prevention in healthcare facilities in Delta State, Nigeria: A prospective, pilot implementation intervention. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Project StopHepB interventions significantly improved early identification, linkage to care, and timely HepB-BD vaccination, effectively closing gaps in HBV prevention of perinatal transmission. These findings support the scale-up of similar interventions to advance HBV elimination goals across other facilities in the state, in Nigeria, and to prevent new HBV infections in the future.
