Bacteriophages offer promising alternatives to antibiotics for treating drug-resistant infections and engineering microbiomes, but applications are limited by challenges related to selection of phages infecting specific bacterial strains. Here we present a phylogeny-agnostic machine-learning framework predicting strain-level phage-host interactions across diverse bacterial genera from genome sequences alone. Systematically optimizing the workflow over 13.2 million training runs across six datasets (115,037 interactions, 949 bacterial strains, 518 phages), we achieved performance matching species-specific methods (AUROC 0.67-0.94) while eliminating phylogenetic constraints. Experimental validation of 1,240 predicted E. coli phage-host interactions confirmed generalizability (AUROC 0.84), while genome-wide RB-TnSeq screens verified that 68.6% of experimentally identified infection mediators were captured computationally. Model-guided cocktail design achieved up to 97.5% bacterial coverage with five phages, and up to a 3.1-fold improvement in single-phage selection over promiscuity-based selection. This platform enables rational phage-therapy design and precision microbiome engineering with applications across clinical, agricultural and industrial contexts.

Objective To systematically review the conceptual evolution and research focus of narrative competence among healthcare professionals and to reveal the differences and complementary relationships between Chinese and English articles. Methods CiteSpace-based knowledge mapping was conducted on the articles related to narrative competence published between 2001 and 2025,including 103 articles from four major English databases (PubMed,Web of Science Core Collection,APA PsycINFO,and CINAHL) and 186 articles from three major Chinese databases (CNKI,Wanfang Data,and VIP).Keyword co-occurrence analysis was performed to identify research hotspots,and cluster analysis to reveal differences in research orientations between English and Chinese articles.Keyword bursts were detected to track the temporal trajectory of conceptual evolution. Results The concept of narrative competence shows a trend of evolving from abstract humanistic ideas to concrete clinical competencies.English articles focus more on theoretical construction and humanistic connotations,while Chinese articles emphasize application and operability,translating narrative competence into measurable core abilities. Conclusions The development of narrative competence follows a trajectory of "meta-concept-dimensionalization-operationalization framework".English and Chinese articles represent two complementary pathways:theoretical deepening and practical transformation.Future efforts should promote the standardization and localized integration of the conceptual framework,assessment tools,and training systems for narrative competence.

Visual attention is highly sensitive to spatial cues provided by others, with eye-gaze direction playing a primary role in shaping how we orient attention within different environments. While gaze-mediated attentional orienting can often be considered automatic, as it reflects our spontaneous tendency to look where others are looking, accumulating evidence suggests that it is also strongly modulated by social variables. These include characteristics of the observer, characteristics of the face providing the gaze cue, and the nature of their relationship. In this short review, we summarise and critically discuss some recent studies that have investigated the influence of such social variables on this form of social attention. Our discussion is grounded in the eyeTUNE framework (Dalmaso et al., 2020b), which we use not only to organise existing evidence, but also to propose refinements. In particular, we highlight the role of cultural background and dynamic contexts as key directions for future research, arguing that these may offer novel, relevant insights into how attention operates in everyday social interactions.
