- Comparison of the efficacy and safety of nafamostat mesylate and heparin in blood purification therapy for patients with severe acute pancreatitis: protocol for a randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1868927.FM
- Blood purification plays an important role in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis. Extracorporeal blood anticoagulation is an important strategy to achieve smooth circulation in blood purification circuits. We aimed to investigate the efficacy, safety, and impact on circulating cytokines of using heparin or nafamostat mesylate anticoagulation in patients with severe acute pancreatitis duri…

- Development and Internal Validation of a Multivariable Prognostic Model for in-Hospital Mortality in Critically Ill Patients with Acute Exacerbation of COPD. [Journal Article]Int J Chron Obstruct Pulmon Dis. 2026; 21:632533.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: A multivariable prognostic model based on six routinely available admission variables demonstrated excellent discriminatory performance and good calibration for predicting in-hospital mortality in critically ill patients with acute exacerbation of COPD. The model showed higher discriminatory performance than APACHE II in our cohort. Nevertheless, external validation and direct comparison with established COPD-specific prognostic models are required before routine clinical implementation.

- Real-World Data on the Effectiveness and Use of Intravenous Fosfomycin for the Treatment of Difficult-to-Treat Infections Caused by Carbapenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria-A Subgroup Analysis from the FORTRESS Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The real-world data of this subgroup analysis suggest that FOS-containing regimens were associated with generally favorable clinical and microbiological outcomes and acceptable tolerability in patients with severe infections due to CR Gram-negative bacteria.

- Shengmai Injection as adjunctive therapy in sepsis and septic shock: a retrospective cohort study. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Adjunctive SMI therapy was associated with certain beneficial physiological effects, including improvements in inflammatory and metabolic markers and organ function, without conferring a significant survival benefit regarding 28-day mortality. Post-treatment PCT and lactate levels serve as powerful prognostic biomarkers for disease progression. Further prospective randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are required to corroborate these observations and consolidate clinical evidence.

- Risk factors for diaphragmatic dysfunction in mechanically ventilated patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Sepsis/infection, disease severity, advanced age, and elevated BMI are independent risk factors for DD in mechanically ventilated patients, whereas adequate nutritional status and preserved muscle strength are protective. Early identification of high-risk patients, nutritional optimisation, and infection control may reduce DD incidence.

- Efficacy of a Nursing Checklist During Mechanical Ventilation in Patients With Severe Pneumonia. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, it was observed that the implementation of a nursing checklist was associated with significant improvements in the quality of airway care and patient outcomes during mechanical ventilation in patients with severe pneumonia, leading to a significant reduction in the duration of mechanical ventilation and improved oxygenation status and prognosis of patients.

- Prognostic Value of Serum Cortisol, DHEA, and SOFA Score in Adult Sepsis Patients: A Retrospective Single-Center Clinical Study. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Sepsis and septic shock remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality in intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide. While activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is a vital adaptive response, the dissociation between cortisol and adrenal androgens like dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is hypothesized to correlate with poor outcomes. This study aimed to evalu…

- Development and Validation of the Composite Renal-Inflammatory-Nutritional-Metabolic Index for Predicting 28-Day Mortality in Critically Ill Patients. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: This study aimed to develop and internally validate the RIN-IM model, which integrates routinely measured biomarkers reflecting renal dysfunction, systemic immune-inflammatory activation, albumin-related alterations during acute illness, and metabolic stress, for prediction of 28-day mortality in critically ill adults. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 1000 …

- CONCLUSIONS: Eravacycline achieved substantial pulmonary exposure in critically ill patients with HAP/VAP despite reduced plasma exposure, with acceptable safety and encouraging clinical responses. Notably, eravacycline's independent contribution to clinical outcomes cannot be determined due to concurrent antimicrobial use.

- Range-Wide Geographic Variation of Major Gene Resistance (Cr3) to White Pine Blister Rust in Pinus strobiformis (Southwestern White Pine). [Journal Article]Phytopathology. 2026 Aug 09. [Online ahead of print]P
- Southwestern white pine (Pinus strobiformis) is native to the U.S. and Mexico and is susceptible to the pathogen Cronartium ribicola, which causes the disease white pine blister rust. A major gene, Cr3, confers resistance to the disease. While Cr3 has been observed at low frequency in the periphery of the species range, its presence in the core of the range, in Mexico, is unknown, as are the freq…

- Outcomes Associated With Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome With Acute Kidney Injury: A National Inpatient Sample Analysis. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112363.C
- Background Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is frequently complicated by acute kidney injury (AKI) and is associated with adverse outcomes. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is commonly used in critically ill patients with hemodynamic instability; however, nationally representative data evaluating outcomes associated with CRRT use in ARDS complicated by AKI are limited.
