- Knowledge, Attitudes, and Reported Practices Regarding Prediabetes Among Hypertensive Patients With Abdominal Obesity: A Cross-Sectional Structural Equation Modeling Analysis. [Journal Article]J Diabetes Res. 2026; 2026(1):e3315859.JD
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest modest cross-sectional associations among KAP domains and are compatible with the hypothesized structure but do not establish temporal ordering or mediation. Longitudinal studies using validated instruments and objective glycemic assessment are needed.

- The Early Burn Wound Microbiome, Not Donor-Site Transfer, Marks Graft Healing Outcome. [Journal Article]Wound Repair Regen. 2026 Sep-Oct; 34(5):e70217.WR
- Healing after split-skin grafting remains difficult to anticipate in small-area burns, particularly when wounds show no clinically diagnosed infection. We tested whether the burn wound microbiome before grafting captures early wound states linked to subsequent healing. Twenty-six adults with mid-dermal to full-thickness burns involving < 10% total body surface area underwent longitudinal sampling…

- Exosomes From Toll-Like Receptor 4-Stimulated Lung Cancer Cells Modulate Macrophage Polarization. [Journal Article]Scand J Immunol. 2026 Oct; 104(4):e70159.SJ
- Exosomes derived from lung cancer cells play a critical role in modulating the tumour microenvironment, particularly through their effects on macrophage polarization. We investigated how exosomes from A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells, both unstimulated and stimulated with a toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, influence the phenotype and function of THP-1 derived macrophages. We used differential c…

- Physiological Arousal and Its Effects on Time Perception: A Systematic Review. [Systematic Review]Wiley Interdiscip Rev Cogn Sci. 2026 Sep-Oct; 17(5):e70041.WI
- Time perception is a fundamental aspect of human cognition, influencing motor coordination, decision-making, and planning. Unlike sensory modalities such as vision or hearing, which rely on dedicated sensory organs, the perception of time lacks a specific neural substrate, making it highly dependent on internal physiological and psychological states. Research suggests that physiological arousal p…

- A protocol for the development of a core descriptor and core outcome set for acute left-sided diverticulitis. [Journal Article]Colorectal Dis. 2026 Oct; 28(10):e70645.CD
- Diverticulitis is a common emergency general surgical condition that affects patients worldwide. Research remains heterogeneous, meaning the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care for these patients remains a challenge. We aimed therefore to complete a core outcome and core descriptor set for acute left-sided diverticulitis.

- Sticks and Stones: Hand Preference and Grip in Wild Chimpanzee Tool-Use. [Journal Article]Am J Biol Anthropol. 2026 Oct; 191(2):e70364.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights challenges and complexity associated with plant-based precision-grasping tool-use behaviors like algae fishing. During the early stages of hominin evolution, the efficient execution of such manual behaviors likely benefited from key evolutionary adaptations favoring improved dexterity, motor skills, and enhanced brain-hand coordination.

- Recent Advances in Sample Preparation for Cholesterol and Oxysterol Analysis in Complex Biological Matrices. [Review]J Sep Sci. 2026 Oct; 49(10):e70539.JS
- Cholesterol and oxysterols are key molecules that regulate physiological processes and participate in the occurrence and progression of various major diseases. Accurate and efficient analytical detection of these substances in complex biological matrices is critical for disease mechanism research and biomarker discovery. However, challenges including complex biological matrices, large differences…

- Sigma-1 Receptor-Targeting Compounds Show Antiviral Activity Across Multiple Coronavirus Models. [Journal Article]J Med Virol. 2026 Oct; 98(10):e71123.JM
- Over the past two decades, coronaviruses have caused three major public health crises, including the epidemics of SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2. Following the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, several antiviral drugs have been approved for the treatment of COVID-19. However, the high mutation rate of SARS-CoV-2 has led to the emergence of multiple variants, some of which can escape vaccine-induced imm…

- Artificial Intelligence Echocardiographic Interpretation in the Emergency Department: Agreement, Interpretation Yield and Reporting Scope. [Multicenter Study]Emerg Med Australas. 2026 Oct; 38(5):e70364.EM
- CONCLUSIONS: AI agreed with expert review in about three-quarters of evaluations but provided a guideline-compliant interpretation in less than half; a pragmatic approach raised yield to 70% at the same agreement. The AI withheld classifications that experts could reach; its validated scope covers only part of what ED echocardiography must address, and reports did not mark unassessed parameters. This study reports agreement, not accuracy. For now, human expert review of AI reports is required.

- Negotiating Care Over Time: A Systematic Review of Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Through a Life Course Approach. [Systematic Review]Sociol Health Illn. 2026 Nov; 48(8):e70280.SH
- The global ageing of the population has significantly increased the demand for long-term informal care, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although research on caregiver burden and coping strategies is extensive, limited attention has been paid to the temporal evolution of caregiving roles and their intersections with caregivers' life trajectories. This systematic review, co…

- Motif-Selective DNA Recognition and Promoter-Dependent Transcriptional Repression by a Cyclic Pyrrole/Lysine Polyamide. [Journal Article]Chembiochem. 2026 Oct 14; 27(19):e70566.C
- Sequence-selective control of gene expression by synthetic DNA-binding molecules is attractive for developing chemical biology tools and potential therapeutic applications. Here we report a cyclic pyrrole/lysine polyamide (cPKP) that preferentially binds AT-rich DNA, with selective recognition of ATAT and ATGT motifs. In a HeLa nuclear extract-based transcription system, cPKP repressed transcript…
