- Developmental dynamics of ascorbic acid metabolism in wild jujube fruit: an integrated physiological and transcriptomic analysis. [Journal Article]Plant Sci. 2026 Oct 08; :113507. [Online ahead of print]PS
- Wild jujube (Ziziphus jujuba var. spinosa) fruit is rich in ascorbic acid (AsA), but developmental coordination among AsA accumulation, enzyme activities and candidate-gene expression remains unclear. We compared wild jujube with Ziziphus jujuba Mill. cv. 'Lingwuchangzao' grown in the same orchard across five developmental stages. We measured fruit traits, sugars, acids, AsA, total ascorbic acid …

- Does it Fit? Testing a Novel Pediatric Surgical Risk Calculator in Africa. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Surg. 2026 Oct 08; :163524. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: The pediatric surgical risk calculator demonstrated good performance in the African context, with improved clinical utility following recalibration and risk stratification. Reduced performance in neonates suggests the need to incorporate additional risk factors and potentially separate models for this subgroup. Future efforts should focus on supporting the use of the SRC in risk communication, clinical decision making, and resource prioritization.

- Selenocysteine (Sec), the 21st genetically encoded amino acid, plays a crucial role in cellular redox regulation and selenium metabolism. Abnormal Sec fluctuations are closely associated with inflammatory oxidative stress and the progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, efficient tools for real-time visualization of Sec fluctuations in living systems remain highly limited. Herein…

- Diagnostic Algorithm and Real-Life Data in Pediatric Patients Suspected of NSAID Hypersensitivity. [Journal Article]Int Arch Allergy Immunol. 2026 Oct 08; :1. [Online ahead of print]IA
- Background Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are frequently used in children, but NSAID hypersensitivity (NSAID-H) presents a heterogeneous clinical profile. Pediatric diagnostic approaches and real-life data after drug challenges (DCs) remain limited. Objective We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic algorithm for suspected pediatric NSAID-H and examine real-life drug use. Methods Childr…

- [Assent of children and teenagers participating in researches in Brazil]. [Review]Cien Saude Colet. 2026; 31(9):e05162024.CS
- This article deals with ethical issues related to the participation of children and teenagers in research and seeks to defend their rights, well-being, dignity, and care by discussing assent as a tool to broaden the scope of pediatric research in Brazil. This qualitative research used a literature review and discussion of situations and cases involving assent. The results point to the need for re…

- Percutaneous endoscopic sigmoidopexy for recurrent sigmoid volvulus in high-risk adults: a systematic review. [Review]Scand J Gastroenterol. 2026 Oct 08; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]SJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In carefully selected high-risk adults with recurrent sigmoid volvulus, strict PES appears feasible with high technical success, low recurrence, and low procedure-related mortality while avoiding an indwelling tube. Prospective, standardised, multicentre research with ≥12-month follow-up is warranted.

- Biochemical Adaptations of Zea mays L. to Abiotic Stress: A Focus on Drought, Salinity, and Heavy Metals. [Review]Plant Environ Interact. 2026 Oct; 7(5):e70217.PE
- Maize (Zea mays L.), one of the most significant cereal crops in the world, is very susceptible to abiotic stresses that include drought, salinity, and heavy metal toxicity, among others, all of which pose a risk to food and nutrition security in the face of climate change. These stresses disrupt cellular homeostasis, cause oxidative damage, inhibit photosynthesis, and eventually lower yield. Thi…

- The 90% effective dose of remimazolam in combination with sufentanil for sedation in patients undergoing gastroscopy. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1929896.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: The ED90 of remimazolam combined with sufentanil for gastroscopy sedation was 17.625 mg, with a low incidence of adverse events. These results provided a clinically relevant dosing benchmark for this promising drug combination.

- Day-case open lumbar spine surgery: a United Kingdom experience. [Journal Article]Br J Neurosurg. 2026 Oct 08; :1-5. [Online ahead of print]BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Day-case open lumbar spine surgery in a dedicated surgical hub is feasible and safe in carefully selected patients, with low complication rates and favourable short-term outcomes. However, its impact on reducing the wider neurosurgical waiting list may be limited.

- Effects of different positions on sensory and motor blockade in patients undergoing anorectal surgery under spinal anesthesia. [Journal Article]J Int Med Res. 2026 Oct; 54(10):3000605261494863.JI
- Background and objectivesBenign anorectal diseases are prevalent in the general population. Currently, spinal anesthesia is mainly performed in the lateral and sitting positions and is rarely performed in the prone or jackknife positions. This study compared the effects of the prone, lateral, and sitting positions on sensory and motor blocks in patients undergoing anorectal surgery under spinal a…

- CONCLUSIONS: Statistical reporting in Surgical Infections showed little improvement from 2015 to 2023 despite evolving national guidance. Fewer authors claimed significance, and the journal demonstrated no requirement for significance for publication. We recommend standardized statistical-reporting guidelines.

- Cemented versus uncemented hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture in patients aged 75 years or older: A retrospective cohort study with 3-year follow-up. [Journal Article]SICOT J. 2026; 12:61.SJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients aged 75 years or older, stem fixation was associated with different complication patterns, with more periprosthetic fractures after uncemented fixation and more dislocations after cemented fixation. Despite these differences in specific complications, cemented fixation was not independently associated with 3-year mortality.
