- A novel mouse calvarial defect model of osteomyelitis induced by Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study established a mouse model of calvarial defect osteomyelitis that recapitulates the key features of cranial bone infection, including bone loss, impaired union, and robust inflammatory and bacterial burdens. This model provides a platform for studying the mechanisms of cranial osteomyelitis by incorporating genetically modified mice and testing local and systemic therapeutic strategies. Although only a single S. aureus strain and limited ancillary staining were used, the study data lay the groundwork for future investigations that incorporate diverse clinical isolates, comorbid conditions, and advanced regenerative or anti-infective interventions targeting craniofacial bone infections.

- This study evaluated the antibacterial effect of photodynamic therapy (aPDT) using nanomicelle-encapsulated curcumin photosensitizer (PS) against drug-resistant clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and K. pneumoniae ATCC 13883[™]. In this study, nanomicelle curcumin prepared by the thin film hydration method, with LED as the radiation source, was used for effective aPDT. The technique's eff…

- Electrospun zein nanofibres incorporating NADES-phytochemical systems as sustainable antimicrobial wound dressings. [Journal Article]Int J Biol Macromol. 2026 Sep 19; :154561. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Bioactive wound dressings with antibacterial properties are attractive for infection control. Phytochemicals, products from plant secondary metabolism, like gallic acid (GA), ferulic acid (FA), coumaric acid (CouA) and perillyl alcohol (PA) show promising antimicrobial activity, but their poor water solubility and the high concentrations required for efficacy limit their application. To overcome …

- Genomic and phenotypic characterization of Limosilactobacillus reuteri MKLQ3807-13: a safe, GABA-producing probiotic candidate isolated from a Kunming dog. [Journal Article]3 Biotech. 2026 Oct; 16(10):438.3B
- Limosilactobacillus reuteri is a promising probiotic species, yet strain-specific properties must be thoroughly characterized to ensure safety and efficacy. In this study, we isolated L. reuteri MKLQ3807-13 from the feces of a healthy Kunming dog and evaluated its probiotic potential through integrated genomic and phenotypic analyses. Whole-genome sequencing revealed that MKLQ3807-13 possessed a …

- River Water Quality Modulates Lupeol Targeting of HIF-1α/VEGF and PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathways in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells. [Journal Article]
- Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype characterized by dysregulated PI3K/Akt signaling and hypoxia-induced angiogenesis, and it lacks estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors. Plant-derived lupeol has been reported to modulate the PI3K/Akt and HIF-1α/VEGF pathways, although the influence of aquatic environmental conditions on their biological activity remai…

- The phosphate specific transport system protein PhoU modulates persister cell formation of Klebsiella pneumoniae. [Journal Article]
- The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has exacerbated the clinical challenge posed by Klebsiella pneumoniae, with persisters often evading antibiotic treatment. To investigate the mechanisms underlying persister formation, we identified the phosphate transporter gene phoU as differentially expressed during persister emergence and recovery. Using CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, we created a ∆phoU knocko…

- In Vitro Antifungal Activity of Commonly Used Antiseptics and Disinfectants Against Candida auris Isolates. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Commonly used antiseptics and disinfectants are effective against C. auris when applied at appropriate concentrations and contact times. However, reduced efficacy at lower concentrations and with shorter exposure times underscores the importance of proper disinfectant use in preventing environmental persistence and transmission in healthcare settings.
