- Job stressors and the incidence of alcohol-related outcomes: prospective findings from the national French ESPS survey. [Journal Article]Alcohol Alcohol. 2026 Jul 20; 61(5).AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Job stressors, particularly those related to employment uncertainty, predicted the incidence of alcohol-related outcomes, especially binge drinking. Job stressors, including persistent exposures, may warrant more attention for preventing alcohol-related outcomes.

- Association of under-reporting of alcohol use with HIV viral non-suppression and an all-cause mortality risk score among people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that under-reporting of high-risk alcohol use is common among PWH and suggest that under-reporting of alcohol use may mask other health issues, as reflected by increased mortality index scores. Low-cost methods to improve alcohol use are needed.

- Abnormal DLPFC activation in severe methamphetamine use disorder during abstinence: fNIRS evidence from Stroop task. [Journal Article]
- Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) is a chronic relapsing disorder characterized by impaired inhibitory control, particularly in severe cases. However, the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive control during abstinence remain unclear.

- Maternal gut and vaginal microbiota, alcohol use during pregnancy, and infant fetal alcohol spectrum disorder diagnosis in a South African cohort. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This is the first human study to investigate the maternal gut and vaginal microbiota in relation to alcohol use during pregnancy and infant FASD outcomes. Our findings suggest that alcohol use is associated with disruption of the maternal gut microbiota, with potential implications for FASD development in exposed infants. Further investigation of alcohol-associated maternal microbial disturbances may inform microbiota-targeted strategies to improve maternal and infant health linked to alcohol use.

- Incidence of Alcohol Use Disorder and Management in Orthopaedic Patients: A Retrospective Analysis. [Journal Article]J Am Acad Orthop Surg Glob Res Rev. 2026 Aug 01; 10(8).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol use and misuse are common among orthopaedic patients, yet systematic screening and discussion are infrequent. Integrating validated screeners such as AUDIT-C into routine intake and supporting clinicians with training and referral pathways represent critical opportunities to improve patient safety and orthopaedic outcomes.

- Association between inpatient AUDIT-C alcohol screening scores and postoperative outcomes: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 Aug 04; 16(8):e115746.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world surgical cohort, observed AUDIT-C risk category among patients who completed screening was not significantly associated with short-term postoperative outcomes or opioid prescribing. While small differences in length of stay reached statistical significance, their clinical relevance is uncertain. Limitations include limited number of at-risk patients, non-response bias and the absence of standardised follow-up for at-risk patients, which may have contributed to null findings. Future efforts should focus on improving screening through workflow integration, surgical team engagement and follow-up interventions to fully realise benefits from alcohol screening.

- Effectiveness of brief motivational interviewing for alcohol misuse: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials. [Review]Addict Behav Rep. 2026 Dec; 24:100727.AB
- CONCLUSIONS: BMI appears to be a flexible and clinically meaningful intervention for reducing alcohol-related harm across diverse adult populations. However, long-term benefits were less consistently maintained, suggesting that ongoing support strategies, such as booster contacts, digital monitoring, or continued clinician involvement, may be important for sustaining behavioral change over time.

- Problematic Alcohol Use in Debre Berhan, Ethiopia: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: PAU prevalence was high in this sample, significantly higher among men compared to women. Our study highlights the need to implement public health interventions that target risk factors for PAU in Ethiopia. Findings also highlight the need for selective PAU prevention interventions that target individuals with a family history of PAU or exposure to stressful life events.

- Screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment compared with treatment as usual for alcohol use in an integrated refugee settlement in Zambia: a hybrid, type 1, randomised controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first known trial in a humanitarian setting of an intervention finding a significant, sustained effect on reduced alcohol use. SBIRT is a feasible and effective strategy to reduce alcohol-related burden in humanitarian and low-resource settings, with potential for integration into national and global health policies and systems.

- Association Between Alcohol Use, CD4 Count, and Depressive Symptoms Among People with HIV with Viral Load Suppressed in Southwestern Uganda. [Journal Article]
- Despite the current effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) and viral suppression, depression remains the most prevalent mental health challenge among people with HIV (PWH) in Uganda and worldwide. This study examined the relationship between CD4 cell count and depressive symptoms among PWH on ART with viral suppression, and the potential modification effect of alcohol use on this relationship. We…

- Turkish validity and reliability study of the Alcohol, Smoking, and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) Scale. [Journal Article]Dusunen Adam. 2025 Dec; 38(4):212-222.DA
- CONCLUSIONS: It was concluded that ASSIST v3.1 can be applied to screen for cigarette, alcohol, and substance use/abuse in general psychiatry and psychiatric counseling centers in our country. Future studies conducted in different populations would provide new data regarding the effectiveness of ASSIST and contribute to both the literature and daily practice.

- Optimizing brain functional-structural architecture with cTBS to reduce relapse in alcohol use disorder: a randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]
- Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is characterized by high relapse rates, necessitating novel interventions. Continuous theta-burst stimulation (cTBS) targeting the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC) has been proposed to reduce relapse risk by modulating prefrontal control networks implicated in craving and self-regulation, but its efficacy and mechanisms remain to be established. In a random…

- Association of GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Prescriptions and Alcohol Consumption in the National Institutes of Health's All of Us Cohort. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study's findings indicate that GLP-1RAs may reduce alcohol consumption by decreasing use frequency. Experimental studies and randomized controlled trials are needed to test the mechanisms and potential efficacy of GLP-1RAs in people with AUD.

- Prevalence and determinants of alcohol use disorder and its association with adherence to antihypertensive therapy among adult hypertensive patients in a hospital setting, Northwest Ethiopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: AUD is common among hypertensive patients and is significantly associated with poor adherence to antihypertensive therapy. Integrating alcohol use screening and intervention into routine hypertension care may improve medication adherence and treatment outcomes.
