- Device-free, Cost-effective Sacrospinous Fixation Using Absorbable versus Nonabsorbable Sutures: A 5-Year Prospective, Cohort Study. [Journal Article]J Midlife Health. 2026 Apr-Jun; 17(2):248-252.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent sacrospinous fixation using Polyglactin no. 1 sutures with a simplified device-free technique demonstrated high long-term anatomical success rate and lower complication rates comparable to nonabsorbable sutures. This approach may be particularly useful in the resource-constrained settings.

- Histomorphological evaluation of thermal injury following palatoplasty performed with CO2 laser or LigaSure device in dogs with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome. [Journal Article]Vet J. 2024 Oct; 307:106195.VJ
- The elongated soft palate is an abnormality that characterizes most brachycephalic dogs and contributes to the brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS). Palatoplasty is routinely performed in brachycephalic dogs; several surgical techniques exist. The use of surgical instruments such as monopolar electrocoagulation, CO2 or diode laser, bipolar vessel sealing device and harmonic shears ha…

- Management of complicated Bouveret's syndrome. [Case Reports]
- Bouveret's syndrome is an uncommon cause of gastric outlet obstruction caused by the impaction of large gallstones in the duodenal lumen. The gallstones pass into the duodenal lumen through a cholecystogastric or a cholecystoduodenal fistula. Endoscopic retrieval with or without lithotripsy is the first line of management, often with variable success. We present a case of a woman in her 70s who p…

- Minimally Invasive Mid-Substance Achilles Tendon Repair Using the Percutaneous Achilles Repair System (PARS). [Journal Article]
- Achilles tendon ruptures commonly occur in physically active individuals and drastically alter the ability to perform recreational activities1,2. Many patients want to continue participating in recreational activities, which can be facilitated by operatively treating the injury in a timely fashion, maximizing their functional recovery. The Percutaneous Achilles Repair System (PARS) Jig (Arthrex) …

- Evaluation of a First-Year Veterinary Surgical Skills Laboratory: A Retrospective Review. [Review]
- A retrospective review of the first-year surgical skills competency-based assessment was performed at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) using 6 years of data from 475 students. The cumulative pass rate was 88.2% on first attempt and 99.2% upon remediation. Student gender did not influence overall pass/fail rates, with a failure rate of 11.1% for female students and 10.5% for male …

- Technical note: The development of a methodology for ruminal and colon tissue biopsying of young Holstein dairy calves. [Journal Article]
- The objectives of this study were to develop a methodology for biopsying the rumen and colon of young dairy calves and to collect suitable quality tissue samples for microscopic and gene expression analysis. Six Holstein dairy bull calves (45.0 ± 1.5 kg birth weight) were ruminally cannulated during the second week of life and weaned at the end of wk 6. Ruminal and colon tissue samples were colle…

- A mini-invasive tenolysis of the flexor tendons following hand fractures: case series. [Journal Article]
- The treatment of the flexor tendon adhesions following phalanx and metacarpal fractures, in closed or open injuries, is a great challenge for the hand surgeon. The outcomes are often poor, because of the severity of the lesion and the aggressiveness of the surgical procedure of the secondary tenolysis.

- Fascial Repair of Laparoscopic Ports with Allis-Hemostat Technique. [Journal Article]
- Port site hernias are one of the most serious complications associated with laparoscopic surgery. In this study, we present a simple and reliable method for port site closure in laparoscopic surgery. From 2005 to 2011, 500 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery were enrolled for the study. They were evaluated considering age, sex, indication of laparoscopic surgery, and early and late compli…

- Laparoscopic intersphincteric resection and J-pouch reconstruction without laparotomy. [Journal Article]
- In some cases, a J-pouch is not created after laparoscopic intersphincteric resection (Lap-ISR), because this procedure usually does not involve laparotomy. This study aimed to develop a new technique for Lap-ISR and J-pouch reconstruction without laparotomy and to assess the short- and long-term outcomes of this technique. After a rectal specimen is excised using the transanal approach, the reco…
