- Carbimazole-Induced Severe Acquired Aplastic Anemia in a Patient with Graves' Disease: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Reports (MDPI). 2026 Aug 26; 9(3).R
- Background and Clinical Significance: Carbimazole is a widely used medication to treat Graves' disease, although it can rarely cause acquired aplastic anemia, a complication that happens in less than 0.01% of people. Case Presentation: We report a 36-year-old woman treated with supratherapeutic dose carbimazole who, after approximately six months of treatment, developed high grade fever, severe m…

- Idiopathic Pneumonia Syndrome and Pulmonary Toxicity After Total Body Irradiation for Bone Marrow Transplantation in the Modern Transplant Era. [Journal Article]
- Total body irradiation (TBI) is commonly used for myeloablative conditioning prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in high-risk, relapsed, or refractory hematologic malignancies. Pulmonary toxicity (PT)-including pneumonia, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, and interstitial pneumonitis-is a serious complication after HSCT. Idiopathic pneumonia syndrome (IPS), defined as wi…

- Anti-glomerular basement membrane disease with concomitant myeloperoxidase antibodies in a pediatric patient: a case report of presentation, treatment and outcome a rare disease. [Case Reports]
- Anti-glomerular basement membrane disease (anti-GBMD) is a rare small-vessel vasculitis presenting as rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and/or diffuse alveolar hemorrhage. A third of patients with anti-GBMD have antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies and are known as double-positive patients. There are a limited number of pediatric double-positive cases published in the literature. In this ca…

- Estimating 2-year risk of first relapse in ANCA-associated vasculitis: derivation of a risk-prediction model based on participants in the PEXIVAS trial. [Journal Article]Ann Rheum Dis. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]AR
- CONCLUSIONS: Our model estimates the risk of first relapse for individuals with AAV within 2 years after achieving disease remission. This may inform monitoring and treatment decisions. The model will benefit from future external validation.

- Trying to disentangle the causes of dyspnea and exercise limitation in a subject with GATA2 deficiency and normal spirometry: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case study illustrates how clinical medicine benefits from applying the basic principles of respiratory physiology both at rest and during exercise to discern the mechanisms of dyspnea and exercise intolerance.

- Predictors of early severe respiratory distress in ANCA-associated vasculitis with diffuse alveolar haemorrhage: a multicentre REVEAL cohort study. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Rheumatol. 2026 Sep 04. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: This multicentre study highlights the peripheral neutrophil count as a simple and readily available biomarker for risk stratification in AAV-DAH. Recognising neutrophilia at diagnosis may facilitate closer monitoring, early escalation of supportive care, and timely adjustment to immunosuppressive therapy. These findings provide a rationale for integrating neutrophil count into the prognostic assessment and therapeutic decision-making for AAV-related DAH.

- Hydrocephalus and Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage as the Initial Manifestation of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Antiphospholipid Syndrome: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that can affect many systems, such as the central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular, musculocutaneous, renal, and respiratory systems, etc. SLE can occur alone or in association with other autoimmune diseases, especially antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Hydrocephalus and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) are infrequent manifestations …

- Therapeutic plasma exchange across multiple organ systems in an Egyptian tertiary center: A seven-year real-world cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This single-center Egyptian TPE cohort demonstrates high efficacy and safety when aligned with ASFA guidelines. Neurologic and hematologic indications achieve optimal outcomes; renal indications and critical illness markers predict poorer prognosis. The PLASMIC score, treatment urgency in TTP and GBS, and the proposed three-tier model represent exploratory findings that, if prospectively validated, could become actionable prognostic tools. These findings suggest that evidence-based TPE expansion in resource-limited settings may be feasible, though multicenter validation is required.

- Forensic challenges in a case of suspected filicide, matricide, and post-mortem dismemberment. [Case Reports]J Forensic Sci. 2026 Sep 08. [Online ahead of print]JF
- Familicide represents one of the most complex forms of domestic violence in forensic practice. Among intrafamilial homicides, filicide and matricide pose major medico-legal and criminological challenges, particularly when autopsy findings are nonspecific or severely altered by post-mortem changes. We report an unusual forensic case involving the deaths of a 3-year-old child and his grandmother, b…

- Androgen-associated remodeling of pulmonary NK cells and sex-biased susceptibility in lupus-associated diffuse alveolar hemorrhage. [Journal Article]Autoimmunity. 2026 Dec 31; 59(1):2722939.A
- Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is a lethal, female-biased complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). While adaptive immunity is a known driver, the role of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in DAH and the contribution of sex hormones to this process remain unclear. To characterize pulmonary ILC remodeling during DAH and evaluate whether androgen signaling modulates natural killer (NK) cell…

- Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage is a rare and serious complication of thrombolytic therapy. We describe 2 patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction who received streptokinase, developed diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, and survived. The first patient was a 46-year-old man with an inferior infarction. He later needed bypass grafting for triple-vessel disease. After receiving streptokinase, …
