- Insomnia is associated with altered arachidonic acid-induced platelet aggregation and lower cholesterol independent of age in aspirin-treated unstable angina: a machine learning analysis. [Journal Article]Platelets. 2026 Dec; 37(1):2743142.P
- CONCLUSIONS: In age-matched, aspirin-treated UA patients, insomnia is independently associated with reduced PMaxAggR and lower CHOL, with inflammatory markers no longer significant after age-balancing. These findings delineate an age-independent platelet-cholesterol axis linked to insomnia, potentially reflecting shared autonomic and neurobiological dysregulation, and motivate sleep evaluation as part of platelet-reactivity phenotyping in this population.

- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk through chronic inflammation, immune dysregulation, endothelial dysfunction, and prothrombotic mechanisms. However, the mechanisms underlying acute coronary events in young patients with newly diagnosed advanced HIV infection remain incompletely understood. We report the case of a 36-year-old man with…

- Fasting-induced headache in Ramadan: a scoping review with implications for clinical practice. [Review]Pain Manag. 2026 Oct 07; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]PM
- Headache attributed to fasting is a recognized secondary headache in the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition (ICHD-3), defined as a diffuse, non-pulsating headache developing during fasting and relieved after eating. It is especially relevant during Ramadan, when large populations undergo predictable daily periods of food and fluid abstinence lasting up to 20 hours. De…

- Acute effects of 3 and 6 mg·Kg-1 caffeine on strength-power performance and isokinetic peak torque in competitive male boxers: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2026 Dec 30; 23(1):2743368.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Acute ingestion of 3 and 6 mg·kg-1 caffeine was associated with improvements in selected laboratory-based strength-power and isokinetic PT outcomes in male boxers, particularly during the scheduled 60-min assessment. The pattern of responses varied across doses and testing tasks, and 6 mg·kg-1 was not consistently superior to 3 mg·kg-1. These findings should be interpreted as evidence for selected neuromuscular outcomes rather than as direct evidence of improved punching or competitive boxing performance.

- Livedoid Vasculopathy in a Young Woman With Elevated Factor VIII and Lipoprotein(a): A Case Report With Consideration of Future Pregnancy. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115845.C
- Livedoid vasculopathy (LV) is a rare, chronic vascular disorder marked by painful, recurrent ulcerations that primarily affect the lower extremities. It is frequently associated with hypercoagulable states, although its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood. We present the case of a 25-year-old woman with a longstanding history of LV, elevated factor VIII, increased lipoprotein(a), recu…

- Thromboembolic prophylaxis in childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. From pathophysiology to clinical management. [Review]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1933209.FP
- Thromboembolic complications remain among the most serious complications of childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS). Although their incidence is considerably lower than in adults, venous thromboembolism continues to cause substantial morbidity and occasional mortality, including pulmonary embolism, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, and extensive deep venous thrombosis. Preventive management…

- Are future physicians practicing safe caffeine consumption? A structured narrative review of caffeine and energy drink use among medical students. [Review]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1935826.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Caffeine and energy drink use are common, but prevalence depends strongly on product definition and recall period. Evidence supports concern about high-dose or poorly timed exposure and sleep-related associations, but not causal claims about burnout, academic performance or professional impairment. Standardized measures, longitudinal studies and evaluated interventions are needed.

- Association of a platelet function testing-guided intensified antiplatelet strategy with thromboembolic events after EP2 stent-assisted coil embolization in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms. [Multicenter Study]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1829631.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: A PFT-guided intensified antiplatelet strategy was associated with a lower incidence of early post-procedural thromboembolic events without a significant increase in major bleeding in UIA patients treated with EP2 stent-assisted coiling. These findings support the potential utility of this comprehensive strategy, although the independent contribution of each component requires further investigation in larger prospective studies.

- Interpretable machine learning for postoperative sepsis prediction in ICU patients following intracranial hematoma evacuation. [Multicenter Study]Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2026; 16:1895258.FC
- CONCLUSIONS: This study developed and externally validated an interpretable XGBoost-based model for predicting sepsis risk during ICU stay among patients after intracranial hematoma evacuation. The model showed generally consistent AUC-based discrimination across multiple validation cohorts and may support individualized risk stratification. Further prospective validation and clinical impact assessment are required before routine clinical implementation.

- Chronotherapeutic considerations for antiplatelet therapy in cardiovascular risk prevention - A systematic review. [Journal Article]Vasa. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]VASA
- Summary: Background: Cardiovascular physiology exhibits circadian rhythms, including a morning surge in platelet reactivity and cardiovascular events. Aligning the timing of antiplatelet therapy with these rhythms may be a simple, cost-effective approach to improve clinical efficacy. This systematic review evaluates the diurnal variability in platelet reactivity among individuals receiving aspiri…

- First-trimester aspirin allocation strategies and preterm preeclampsia in women with pregestational diabetes: A national multicenter observational cohort study. [Journal Article]Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]AO
- CONCLUSIONS: In women with PGDM, algorithm-based aspirin allocation strategies were associated with substantially lower aspirin exposure without evidence of increased preterm PE or adverse perinatal outcomes compared with clinical risk factor-based prophylaxis. However, given the observational design, baseline differences, and limited number of events, the study was not powered to demonstrate equivalence or exclude smaller clinically relevant differences. These findings should therefore be considered exploratory and require confirmation in adequately powered prospective studies.
