- Prediction of treatment response and survival in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma receiving sorafenib: pretreatment prognostic scores. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall survival and time to progression are not affected by different pretreatment values of NLR, ALBI grade, CRAFITY score, and Glasgow prognostic score in sorafenib-treated HCC.

- Exploring the independent factors influencing prolonged QTc intervals in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure caused by hepatitis B. [Journal Article]
- Prolonged QTc interval is a common electrophysiological abnormality in patients with chronic liver disease, but limited evidence exists regarding its occurrence in acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), particularly in hepatitis B virus-related ACLF (HBV-ACLF). Given the rapid progression, high mortality, and severe complications associated with ACLF, understanding cardiac electrophysiological ch…

- Portal vein thrombosis increases short-term mortality among hospitalized patients with cirrhosis in a global cohort. [Journal Article]Liver Transpl. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]LT
- Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in cirrhosis is associated with adverse outcomes, but determinants of PVT and its impact on short-term outcomes in hospitalized patients across global regions remain unclear. The multinational CLEARED consortium prospectively enrolled adults with cirrhosis admitted non-electively after consent. Patients were followed during hospitalization and 30 days post-discharge. …

- ObjectiveTo identify predictors of 30-day catheter-related complications after percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage in patients with malignant obstructive jaundice and to develop and internally validate an individualized risk-prediction nomogram.MethodsThis single-center retrospective study included consecutive patients with malignant obstructive jaundice who underwent percutaneous trans…

- A systematic review of ultrasound to predict severe disease in patients with dengue and other viral infections associated with hemorrhagic fevers. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Common pathophysiology leading to plasma leakage results in sonographic signs across viral infections associated with hemorrhagic fevers, and some findings can help predict severe disease. Important limitations included reliance on a single database and possibility of missing manuscripts from local journals, the small number of publications on non-dengue VaHFs, patient recruitment overwhelmingly from the in-hospital setting at tertiary referral centers during high-transmission periods, high degree of heterogeneity, and bias in the timing domain among the studies on dengue. We first propose ultrasound findings be incorporated into new definitions of severity for VaHFs and then introduce an Ultrasound-based assessment of Plasma leakage Severity (UPS) as a hypothesis generating framework to help guide future, prospective research. We discuss some virus and organ-specific considerations and conclude with detailed considerations for future research.

- StatPearls: Anasarca [BOOK]StatPearls. StatPearls Publishing: Treasure Island (FL).BOOK
- Edema is defined as a palpable swelling on the body produced by expansion of the interstitial fluid volume. This accumulation of fluid in the interstitial space occurs as the capillary filtration exceeds the amount of fluid take out by lymphatic drainage. When Edema is massive and generalized, it is called anasarca. It is caused by a variety of clinical conditions like heart failure, renal failur…
- Lupus enteritis and peritonitis presenting as initial manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus: diagnostic challenge in tuberculosis-endemic regions - case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Lupus enteritis and peritonitis can present as the initial manifestations of SLE, posing a diagnostic challenge in TB-endemic regions. Clinicians should consider SLE in the differential diagnosis of unexplained enteritis and peritonitis once common causes are excluded.

- Evaluation of a Registered Nurse-Led Outpatient Paracentesis Service for Decompensated Cirrhosis: A Retrospective Review. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: An RN-led outpatient TP model demonstrated reassuring safety signals and contributed to expanded procedural capacity within an ambulatory liver programme. These findings support the feasibility of nurse-led procedural models as a strategy to improve access to care for patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Further evaluation is needed to assess the impact of this approach on healthcare utilisation and patient-reported outcomes.

- Portal Hypertensive Gastrointestinal Disease in Liver Cirrhosis: The Diagnostic Value of Contrast-Enhanced Multi-Slice Spiral CT. [Journal Article]Curr Med Imaging. 2026; 22:e15734056486778.CM
- CONCLUSIONS: PHGD is a common and significant complication of portal hypertension, but there is a lack of standardized clinical diagnostic criteria. Contrastenhanced MSCT shows considerable potential in assisting the diagnosis of PHGD.

- Clinical and CT features of patients with pneumatosis intestinalis: A retrospective single-center study. [Journal Article]
- This study investigates the clinical and abdominal computed tomography (CT) characteristics of pneumatosis intestinalis (PI). This retrospective single-center study included 58 patients with PI. Clinical data and CT images were reviewed. CT findings included location, extent, and associated features, and PI was classified into 3 morphological patterns: bandlike, grapelike, and beadlike. - Suspected Metronidazole-Induced Acute Pancreatitis in a Three-Year-Old Child Following Treatment for Entamoeba histolytica Gastroenteritis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an uncommon but important cause of abdominal pain in children. Pediatric AP has a broad range of etiologies, including biliary disease, infections, trauma, metabolic abnormalities, genetic disorders, and medications. Drug-induced pancreatitis is rare, and metronidazole has been reported as a potential trigger, with most published cases occurring in adults. Reports in ch…

- Clinical characteristics of pyogenic liver abscess patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and development and validation of a predictive model. [Journal Article]
- Pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) is one of the most common and severe infectious diseases encountered in clinical practice. It is characterized by rapid progression, and failure to recognize and treat the condition promptly may readily result in septic shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), thereby posing a serious threat to the patient's life. However, clinical research focusing on th…

- Metabolic syndrome is independently associated with 1-year readmission in patients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Metabolic syndrome is an independent predictor of 1-year readmission in patients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis, influencing the risk of readmission together with factors such as hepatic encephalopathy and variceal bleeding. The interplay between metabolic dysfunction and alcohol-associated cirrhosis warrants further investigation, and our findings underscore the importance of metabolic risk management in this population.

- Heterozygous Variants in LRP1 Cause a Neurodevelopmental Disorder With Congenital Heart Defects. [Journal Article]
- LRP1 encodes the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1), a transmembrane protein involved in endocytosis and activation of multiple signaling pathways. LRP1 variants have been implicated in the pathogenesis of congenital heart defects (CHD), Alzheimer's disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). Biallelic LRP1 variants have also been reported in two siblings with CH…

- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights severe persistent ascites as an unusual manifestation of PHT in IL-12Rβ1 deficiency associated with MSMD. Evaluation for PHT should be considered in MSMD patients with abdominal distension, gastrointestinal symptoms, hepatosplenomegaly, abnormal liver function tests, growth failure, or unexplained free abdominal fluid.
